  1. LED's not hot enough to melt snow while driving!!??

Real jeeps are Real Jeeps are BUILT, not bought. :)
  2. LED's not hot enough to melt snow while driving!!??

With glass, it's possible to heat it with wires either embedded in it or on the surface (like with the rest window defroster on many cars). I'm not so certain that plastic will be as conducive to that approach though. For one thing, plastic is not as good of a conductor of heat as glass...
  3. What did you do TO your Jeep JL today?

Removed a drywall screw that I noticed in the tire right at the edge of the tread. And, as luck would have it, the hole was not just in the tread, but went inside the tire, so as soon as I removed it, the air started leaking. Searched around to try to find my tire plug kit, but couldn't find...
  4. LED's not hot enough to melt snow while driving!!??

Do the fog lights also accumulate snow? The LED bulbs that I replace my incandescent bulbs with seem to be bright enough by themselves to be used as headlights at any speed I would probably be driving during heavy snow.
  5. Oncoming drivers hate me (LED option)

I know what you mean... When an item takes over a month to get to me, I might forget what I ordered it for... :) This happens to me usually when I'm ordering small electronic parts for Arduino projects... I have to try to find some number on the part and then look it up on the internet to see...
  6. LED's not hot enough to melt snow while driving!!??

Well, if you want to be picky, I have to wonder if the LEDs are even hot enough to melt snow when you are just *sitting still*, much less while *driving*... :)
  7. LED's not hot enough to melt snow while driving!!??

Since the lenses / covers for the lights are made from plastic instead of glass, I have to wonder whether there might be an issue with heating them. It might be that if you heated them enough to handle any sort of snow and ice accumulation, you would soften the plastic in the process. Would it...
  8. How do you get rid of the Anti-Ted Cruz ads.

It appears that this forum is run by someone from California and given the amount of censorship that seems to occur when posts point out the problems with things that are the left holds dear (e.g. hybrids, electric vehicles, etc), I am not in the least surprised that they would have anti-Cruz...
  9. Inside the windshield LED's?

One thing that I noticed when I put the first lights on the safari rack on my XJ was that when they were turned on, they lit up the hood and glass so much that visibility was actually *decreased*. The lights needed to be placed further back so that the roof of the XJ would act as a bottom...
  10. LED's not hot enough to melt snow while driving!!??

I had an XJ 20+ years ago and I took it on a long road trip once where I encountered quite a bit of snow. I do remember the snow accumulating between the aftermarket bumper's light guards and the incandescent lights. What was my solution / reaction to this? I took a couple of beers and put...
  11. LED's not hot enough to melt snow while driving!!??

I suspect that the aerodynamics of the headlight assembly plays a part in this also. Wranglers are not known for being particularly aerodynamic... Well, unless you consider a *brick* to be aerodynamic... Back when I worked for NASA, we said that the Shuttle was just a brick with wings due to...
  12. Let's see those 2-Door JL pics!

If you zoom in on the image, they look like Cooper Discoverer S/T and the wheels look like the stock base model steel wheels.
  13. Windshield cracked. Safelite?

I just find it a bit irritating that I went 87K miles and 14 years on my Ram 1500 without a single crack in the windshield, but could only go 2050 miles on the JL before one showed up. You would think that since the Ram has a larger windshield, it would have a higher probability of being hit by...
  14. Windshield cracked. Safelite?

Considering how prone to cracking the JL's factory windshield is, why should we think that an off-brand one would be any worse, even if it was made in China. Mine cracked on my NV trip and there wasn't any other vehicles around me for at least a half mile, so I'm pretty sure that it wasn't a...
  15. Oncoming drivers hate me (LED option)

Of course, that doesn't meant that they are *made* in the US... I suspect that most of them are made in China and the ones that are shipped from the US are just by sellers who order large quantities of them from China and resell them. You are just paying for the convenience of a possibly...
  16. Oncoming drivers hate me (LED option)

I suspect that there are some choices that produce better light, but I was curious whether even the cheapest LED bulbs were better than the factory incandescent bulbs. I haven't seen any JLs with the factory LEDs, so I really can't judge how close these cheap bulbs come to the factory bulbs. I...
  17. LED's not hot enough to melt snow while driving!!??

Transformers are for either isolation, stepping up, or stepping down AC voltages. They are not for DC voltages. I seriously doubt that they would convert the DC voltages in the car's electrical system to AC, step them up / down to some other point, and then convert them back to DC for the...
  18. LED's not hot enough to melt snow while driving!!??

Women have a habit of leaving their purse in their car when they are refueling. This makes it easy for the snatch-and-grab thieves that come up on the other side of the car and if the door is unlocked, then they can grab the purse (with the money and whatever) and run off with it. Of course...
  19. LED's not hot enough to melt snow while driving!!??

Just got back from NV... If you're from Las Vegas, you should recognize this area:
  20. Let's see those 2-Door JL pics!

Drove up to NV recently in my JL and spent a bit of time in the desert shooting...
