I guess they should have just keep making the JK forever and ever, amen.

* NEWS FLASH * Everything on God's green earth that is produced by man is going to either get upgraded, rreplaced or scrapped. That is business 101. I enjoy the upgrades on the new JL compared to the JK which tows way less, crappy trans and numerous other things. (and that stupid looking bumper with the silver insert in the middle!)

I don’t understand why people are comparing their old YJs and CJs to a 4-door Rubicon or Sahara (not the op she has a sport s i think).

My YJ was the equivalent of a base 2 door JL. I’d you want to see if it feels like a Jeep drive that. It may still feel too refined. I don’t know. But anything else isn’t a valid comparison.

I grew up when the 60's muscle cars were just "used cars" and you could by a 69 Camaro or Mustang for under a thousand bucks. Need a time machine I know right! But let's face it, by today's standard, they are crap with a capital C. What are the car builders doing on TV? Retro mods! New LS engines, modern up graded suspension and brakes, even blutooth radioes disguised as old AM players. The major stuff missing are the air bags and safety systems, but who drives these daily? They are trailer queens or cruise night only.
Does anybody get all misty eyed about the old black and white RCA tv they use to have? How about that 8 track? I'll let ya'll mul-let over while I go iron my bell bottoms....

Not sure what you mean by the JK "tows way less"

4-door JKU and JLU have the exact same 3,500 lbs max towing capacity

2-door JK had a 3,500 lb max towing capacity while JL is only 2,000 lbs

I didn't read all 8 pages of this but, this is the most ridicules OP I have ever read. This is my 13th jeep. I have had them all and still have a CJ2a. This is by far the best one yet.
Did you not test drive it? Why not just keep the jeep you liked? Sell the new one and buy an old one, even if you restore an old one properly it would still be less cash then a JL.

I believe the 4 Doors only towed 2000 lbs with the 3.21 gears, or am I mis-remembering? Most JKU's had 3.21s, not the 3.73s which did do 3500. At least all JL's can do 3500 with 3.45s standard now, though I wish 3.73 was still an option on JLs.

Correct, 3.21 gears had a 2,000 lb capacity, but as noted, when equipped when the max tow package it had the same 3,500 lb capacity.

I don’t mean to rain on anyone’s parade. I am aware that most people here are pretty enthusiastic about their new JL. I got mine 3 days ago. As mentioned in a previous post, this is my 6th Jeep. I’ve had 1 YJ, 2 TJs and 2 JKUs. I must say I am deeply disappointed with this new model. It no longer feels or sounds like a Jeep. It feels and sounds like a SUV.

I understand that FCA wants to broaden its market as much as possible. The general population has appropriated itself of a vehicle that used to belong to a small fringe. Within that scope, kudos to FCA. But I’m nostalgic for the uniqueness of the sensation of a Jeep, when it felt and sounded more like a truck. As in everything else, I suppose I’ll get used to it. But I doubt there’ll be a 7th.
For me it’s the opposite, I’ve owned several Jeeps over the years the last one was a 2011 jku, it was the wife’s daily driver, so it was a mall crawler, didn’t wheel it much.
My other Jeeps I modified and wheeled often. Sometimes we had to drive a while to get to where we wheeled and that part of it was more work than wheeling.
So when I heard about the changes the jl was coming out with I was excited because I wanted to have a Jeep that I could wheel, and would be an enjoyable ride to get there.
So now I’m working on having that “hybrid” rig. Creature comforts, leather, 8.4 nav/radio, cruise control, etc... And the wheeling rig, lift, 37s, bumper, winch, armor, etc... My rig is still a work in progress, still a few things to do, but this old school caveman is loving this new Jeep....:)
