Wrangler is still a huge compromise in terms of ride and comfort compared to crossover SUV's or even pickups. And it is interesting that all the nostalgia led OP to buying three four door models. I have nothing against unlimiteds, but if you are talking old school and nostalgia, something does not add up. OP obviously traded old school for practicality of a four door, but better engine is what spoiled it all?
Thought the same thing.

I'm nostalgic for my old YJ too. My plan is to eventually buy a YJ and build it for off-road and keep driving a current jeep daily. I just have to wait until I get my kids through college to do it.

A base 2-door Sport with LSD has a pretty classic feel. If you have anything other than that then I don't think it is a fair comparison.
Oh geez, you sound just like me, waiting for the kids to get through college so I can blow stupid amounts of money on Jeeps again! :(

As for the original subject of this post, I'm completely with the OP. I strongly prefer the classic feel of the TJ-and-older Jeeps over the cushy comforts of the JL, or even the JK. I still plan to have a JL someday, but it will always have an older Jeep sitting next to it in the garage to remind it where it came from, and hopefully keep it from getting too uppity. :)

I like those... but there's no way to make it crash worthy...
If I can register my Polaris Ranger for street use in Arizona (with mirrors and horn), I'm sure I could drive that on the road (non-highway use).

I don’t mean to rain on anyone’s parade. I am aware that most people here are pretty enthusiastic about their new JL. I got mine 3 days ago. As mentioned in a previous post, this is my 6th Jeep. I’ve had 1 YJ, 2 TJs and 2 JKUs. I must say I am deeply disappointed with this new model. It no longer feels or sounds like a Jeep. It feels and sounds like a SUV.

I understand that FCA wants to broaden its market as much as possible. The general population has appropriated itself of a vehicle that used to belong to a small fringe. Within that scope, kudos to FCA. But I’m nostalgic for the uniqueness of the sensation of a Jeep, when it felt and sounded more like a truck. As in everything else, I suppose I’ll get used to it. But I doubt there’ll be a 7th.
Wow! Did you test drive one before purchasing? I love the refinements. The new Mosel gives me all of the great things my JKUR had with the great things my Cherokee Trailhawk had. Allows me to have one vehicle instead of a toy and a company car

Registering a Roxor with the same laws as a SxS for on road use in your local area isn't the same as making it 50 state street legal, or making it pass crash tests. I'm pretty sure a Polaris ranger wouldn't do well in a crash test either.

Don't get me wrong, if I had the land for a Roxor, I'd own one. I just have a .35 acre lot so don't have any use for a SxS. :giggle:

I also went from a 97 TJ to a 18 JL. Base model to Base model. I am in the lap of luxury with crank down windows. My TJ has half doors with zipper windows. Cruise? Got It V6? Got it. I miss my TJ.
I do love the JL with sunrider top, soundbar, cruise.

I wasn't saying that at all. I also know that my Polaris would disintegrate even in the smallest of crashes. That is why I only use it on my property(4+acres) and on the small roads near my house.

Still safer than a motorcycle, I suppose.

Ah very well. I know some places allow ATV use on roads, but I don't think they're anywhere near me, lol.

man.... What is your gearing?
I believe he is running 5.38’s with a Rubi t-case. He needs a 5/1 Atlas. It is powered by 4 angry squirrels.

It is a very nice TJ. I’m waiting for my neighbor to sell me his LJ Rubicon. ;)
