Sorry I have not replied sooner. I was busy removing those awful plastic covers off the ends of my front bumper.

So, I’m a big girl and I can take the criticism. I see my opinion has outraged some. That’s okay, I respect your opinion. Look, my father has worked for Chrysler his whole life. I am not dumping on FCA. I’m glad they’re doing well. It’s good for his pension. ;) I’m a diehard Jeep fan. That’s why I didn’t even test drive it. It never even crossed my mind that I could dislike it. My bad.

I realize the components are the same. I don’t play in the mud nearly as much as I used to, so that is not the issue. To me, it’s the whole experience of driving it. The old transmissions were so forgiving. I taught so many friends how to drive standard on my previous Jeeps. I don’t think I’ll be doing that on this one.

Some of the replies were right on; I probably will fall in love with my JL once I take the top and doors off, or when I park where no one else can after a good snow storm. But I must say some of the comments were a little over the top; like the guy who said I should get a horse…. Dude, I live in Canada, do you know how cold I would get in the winter :surprised:.

Anyway, it’s just my opinion. I’ve expressed it respectfully, and I stand by it.

I don’t think anyone was “mad” at your statement, just a bit turned off by it.

I’m on my 4th Jeep and I too have a yearn for the fun of my CJ. But in retrospect, the “fun” of it was bonding with the toughness of it. You had very little technology and everything I wanted to change/fix/modify was done in the driveway with simple tools.

However, with that came the oil leaks, loudness, horrid gas mileage, lack of acceleration, and questionable braking. But as a young adult- that was the best reason to have one. It was a vehicular way of giving the finger to those suckers that wanted safe, reliable, family drivers. I was a man, dammit, and the sheeple were conforming to society.

Over time, I became the sheeple. But my love of the CJ is actually the exact reason why I have a JL now. I can have the family car bits but still have the reflection of a soft rebellion. Sure, it’s safer and has modern conveniences- but it’s also not overly practical and frankly, it is a money trap. So maybe that’s the best of both worlds :)

Who cares?
Being “mad or turned off” by the original post is ridiculous. Quite frankly, if you don’t like or agree with the post, keep scrolling. I’m not sure if it’s just the way the people act online lately or a lot of JL owners have turned in to over sensitive, triggered, trolling whiners. Either way, no one has to express their opinion on every thread. Owning almost every gen of Wrangler over the past 30 years, I understand what the OP was saying.

@MimiD

I get where you are coming from. I have had 2 CJ’s, a TJ, a YJ, a samurai on YJ springs, and now an LJ.

I drove my father in laws JLU Rubicon with the 2.0, for some errands and my wife was with me.

After the first mile she looks at me and says I don’t feel like I am in a Jeep. I kind of laughed and said it’s a Jeep just a real new and nice one, maybe too nice.

I was considering giving up my LJ and my double cab TRDOR Tacoma to get a 4 door Rubicon but I keep thinking $40k for a new Jeep or dump $5-7k into the LJ which has character and is sort of a unicorn

With the addition of a child this past year the JLU is tempting for a lot of the reasons @Shooting or Jeeping threw out there.

I ll have to get the father and law in the trail and see how this Jeep feels

Spent a lot of time in my uncles 2 CJ's, then a good friend had a YJ in high school. I drive that quite a bit on nights he was too drunk. I much prefer the modern JL but i get why people like the older models. Same reason a lot of car guys love the 60s and 70s muscle cars over the modern muscle cars of today.
