Hi everyone!

I am new to the wrangler space and want to tap into this communities expertise/advice. My current jeep (renegade) just got totaled from hail. I want to get something more capable off-road and trying to stay in 35-48k price range. This has me narrowed down to one of two options.

1). New willys build which would be around 48k for the minimum options I would want.
2). Used 2020 Rubicon which would be in the similar price range.

I would love a new rubicon but its hard for me to stomach 60k+. The types of things I'm looking to do with this wrangler is intermediate off-roading (think easier lines on hells revenge, Alpine loop in the San Juans, etc). This will be my daily driver so not going to get to crazy. The main reason I am on the fence between the two options is the follow question. Have the brand new wranglers made significant improvements in the refinement as a daily driver and I could upgrade the willys as needed in the future (consider myself a very capable shade tree mechanic). Or are the improvements in the new wranglers not significant and I could go for the used Rubicon right off the bat.

Thanks for any tips!

100% new Willys over a 2020 Rubicon. I would spend the extra coin though and get the XR version.

You can for sure get into the Rubi for <60k unless you plan on loading up on options. And in doing so you can make that Willys up there as well. My JLR was $51k MSRP but I also didnt want or need the higher priced options and I could have snuck in under $50k if I didnt want the factory trail cam.

Biggest questions you need to ask yourself is are you going to be doing wheeling that will require a front locker, do you want to disconnect your front sway bar manually and are you ok giving up the 4:1 transfer case. If youre cool with skipping all that get the Willys and keep your options down and save the cash.

And all of this price theorizing is before the '24 markups those air bags and screens arent going to be free.

Edit: Your best bet is to either jump on the Rubi if its a good deal on a clean Jeep or wait for firm pricing on the 24s to make a decision and then if its too much find a deal on a left over 23.
