Yeah with as much tech as is now built into or directly attached to windshields (antenna, sensors, etc.) it makes sense to either add it under your auto insurance or get a standalone policy for it.

Just so everyone does not read posts in this thread and incorrectly think that if you have State Farm Insurance that you will not pay a deductible if/when you have your vehicle windshield replaced.... BECAUSE you may very well have to pay a deductible when State Farm repairs or replaces your windshield..

Anyway, ..... Yes, State Farm will pay for windshield replacement or repair services for customers who have their comprehensive coverage, though a deductible will in fact apply, unless state laws or policy details say otherwise.

In some states, specific laws govern whether customers will need to pay a deductible for windshield repairs or replacement.
For instance, in Florida, Kentucky, and South Carolina, insurers cannot charge a deductible for windshield repairs or replacement.

Also... All Automotive Insurance Companies in Arizona, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Minnesota and New York must (It's State mandated) offer a "full glass coverage" policy that allows customers to choose a $0 deductible for glass repairs.

Back in the JK days, you could get a new non-OEM windshield installed for around $200. My last one was installed in 2017 and cost $230. Broken windshields just weren't a big deal "back then" because they didn't cost much to replace. With all the Gorilla Glass, advanced safety, and (now) integrated antennas, that sure has changed quickly.

I'm not sure that even the racing optics protection layer would have saved that windshield due to the location of that hit.

While were on the subject of insurance, here's another tidbit. I once ran over a tire carcass with a low-slung sports car. The carcass was obscured by the car I was following and I didn't have a chance to take evasive action. It tore the hell out of the spoiler and adjacent parts ($3K+). What I subsequently found out is if the piece had flown off and hit me before hitting the ground, the accident would be characterized as not-my-fault. I'm not sure that the deductible would have been waived, but the accident would not have counted against my experience rating with the insurance company.

great theory, but that doesn't protect you from debris flying off of vehicles on the other side of the center divider going the opposite direction.
(that's how we lost our first windshield, 5 minutes after arriving in Moab the first time.)

just like with the OPs lady-friend; caca pasa.

Never sit behind a truck, always pass.

I'm still trying to get clarification from her on the 6" specification. It's way larger than 6".

Good to know this isn't covered under warranty. I'll let her know. I'm sure she's going to have to go through her own insurance. She's just upset because she's only had it a couple of weeks.
Sounds to me your friend has terrible luck. Make sure you point out the crack and tell them "welcome to the wrangler club" if you haven't already.

Personally I wouldn't replace it. It'll just get damaged again in another couple weeks or months. Call it a battle scar and move on!

I thought the Corning Gorilla Glass came with a 2 year warrant, did she try contacting Corning direct?

I distrust the dealers as much as the next person, but rock-induced windshield damage is never covered under warranty. Not sure how they are lying in this instance.

Hell...we don't even know who is being referenced as "they". Add that to the mysterious 6" section comment (on an obviously much larger crack) and I think we are getting story that is hard to understand.

Other than the hard-to-get 2024 windshield, this is a garden-variety broken windshield.
Gorilla glass windshields were covered under warranty

They aren't going to cover that under any circumstances. The 6" number is irrelevant, this is an insurance job or pay for it out of pocket if you don't want a rate increase. These windshields are prone to chips/cracking due to the angle and the edges not being covered by some sort of trim like a lot of vehicles have.

Different state have different laws about no deductibles.

I have the Targe film and am confident it has save me from a few chips / cracks already. I have a few indents in the film from rock strikes, but the glass is fine underneath.

https://targegard.com/product/jeep-wrangler-windshield-protection-kit/

That said, the OP’s lady friend would not have been saved by a film. The perimeter 1/4” +/- is unprotected.
