2021 JLURXR, about 5,800 miles, on a mostly deserted 2 lane highway yesterday, windshield apparently spontaneously cracked, lower passenger side corner about a foot long radiating about 45 degrees from the corner. I did not see or hear anything hit the windshield and there were no other vehicles around. What the heck? Don't laugh, will Jeep cover under warranty? Most likely not. Anyone else try?

Warranty no, don't think so. I got hit low on the windshield and it didn't crack for a few weeks. Not saying that is your issue but most likely it is, got hit didn't notice and it finally cracked.

I will need to get it replaced soon I guess. But so common in Alaska I sometimes ignore it if not in line of sight.

OK Scott, I have not looked at the crack really close, might there be an observable spot where something first hit the glass that I could see?

Alaska, yikes, you are seeing to see longer days about now.

Yes I seen mine get hit, so I knew where to look and it just made a little pit in the window and I thought it would be fine. No such luck.

Yes days are long already! Light out when I go to bed and wake up. Plus got 60+ degrees Sunday was beautiful.

Oh I think defroster got mine, which I doubt you need much in SoCal.

That sucks! Do you have the advanced safety package? If so, I can let you know of a local place that will replace the windshield without requiring the calibration.

Windshields don’t generally crack for no reason. Movement, vibration and temperature change can possibly crack a windshield that’s previously had an impact.

My girls drove my Tahoe to school one day because oldest daughters car was in the shop. I got a call that the windshield had broken but nothing hit it. That night in the garage there was no crack. The next morning by the time I got to work there was a crack that ran the entire width of the windshield. On the passenger side along the crack you could see a very small chip. The crack disappeared again that night in the garage. A few days later it got a new windshield.

You probably had a chip right on the edge of your windshield. I have one that I'm just waiting to finally crack. Pic below. With the glass being tilted back even further from the JK and previous generations it's exposing the bottom of the glass to more chips where it is most sensitive.

I had a similar thing happen to mine. Luckily in Minnesota, insurance covers glass without deductible by law. So, I got a new one without having to pay a deductible. The glass guy I used said he does LOTS of Jeeps due to flat nature of the windshield making it weaker than the more curved shape of most other windshields. You might’ve hit something small while speeding along, or perhaps torqued it going over a bump or something where it didn’t crack all the way right away. Who knows… Hopefully, your insurance will take off it for you. Sounds like it might not be the last time it happens…

what's there to "re-calibrate" if the glass is replaced?
aren't the sensors hard-mounted independent of the glass?
