Windshield cracked. Safelite?

How you guys replace them under insurance? Do you carry a rider for glass? I carry $500 deductibles and it has always been cheaper to pay out of pocket? Being a flat window it will get rock chips more often than not so not really worried about OEM - I don’t have sound barrier.

It’s covered under the comprehensive portion of my insurance, I’m from MA. My small family owned independent agent is very good at tailoring or policies so we don’t get surprised. I’ve been doing all my insurance through them for 30 years and they are really customer oriented.

That is exactly where my crack is. Under 200 miles less than a week old... Idiot crossed into the emergency lane and threw a rock.. Of course he was on his phone as he swerved in and out of the emergency lane. My car has taken harder hits and only caused a slight chip.. Jeep glass must be very thin.

Thank you so much... This is the first time that I have ever had a cracked windshield. I inquired about the Gorilla Glass and the guy at Jeep said that it is not out for the JL yet. He did say that we have a 12 month warranty on the windshield, but I did not think it would cover rocks hitting it. Yeah, that new Jeep feeling kind of dies out quickly after you hear that pop sound and then see the crack start moving across the windshield.. Thankfully I had just gotten insurance over the phone the day before..

Your crack looks almost identical to the one I got a week ago. It really didn’t sound like a huge rock but the crack is about 8” long.

yeah I wasn't even driving mine it cracked over night! and all I heard was a samll noise that turned out to be abug in a different place on the windshield.
are any of these warrantied?

Did you pay for it? How much was it? I've got a thousand dollar deductible, so I'll be paying. I'll probably go through Safelite, since they do the OEM glass. What is the part number for the acoustic glass?

Also, anybody know a timeline on availability for Gorilla Glass? That's what I really want.

There were mega potholes on I465 on the northwest side of Indianapolis and some dork with a boxy Scion lowered to about 1/2 inch off the ground bottomed out and tore rocks off the edge of the pothole. Of course, only one rock hit my Jeep. It hit as high as possible in the upper passenger side corner of the windshield, sending about a 10" crack curving downward. The good news is that it isn't in my line of sight, at all, if I have to wait a little bit. Still, it ticks me off. There went my budget for Dana armored differential covers. They'll now have to wait. Uggghh. Oh well. Just a minor setback.

What price has Safelite given on a Mopar Acoustic windhield? I'd like to know the best deal anyone has gotten. Thx!

Be sure you specifically request an OEM windshield, otherwise Safelite will install one which is made in China.

The OEM's tend to be of a much better quality glass than those made in China.

I highly recommend people also add windshield coverage to your auto insurance plan. It's not too expensive. I believe it adds around $2 to your monthly payments w/a co-pay. I have it w/a $100 co-pay on my policy.

The Jeep's windshield is essentially flat, so any stone's hitting it won't deflect as easily as one which hits an automobile's.

Also if you should get just a minor knick, which you can clearly feel, get it immediately fixed before it starts to spread. An epoxy gets injected, which fills the minor cracks and keeps them from spreading. With windshield coverage, it's free, since it is cheaper to be done vs. having a whole windshield replaced.

Sorry, but unless Safelite has changed, in the past they normally carried windshields made in China. Of course those made specifically for the JL's may not be available yet, since it is a new product, but sooner or later, they will be. Just make sure to specify an OEM that's all.

I've seen them for other vehicles, as well as for older Jeeps.

Sooner or later, they will be available for the JL's as well. Simply request an OEM for your JL that's all, to make sure.

I'm not denying about them being only OEM "NOW", since the JL is new, but once again, sooner or later, there will be other manufacturers. Why wouldn't there be?
