Friend of mine bought a new Rubi off the lot a couple of weeks ago. A large truck threw a large rock and it hit her windshield cracking the glass. They are telling her they only cover a 6" section so this isn't covered. And they can't find a replacement right now. Does this sound right?

Any advice from you seasoned Jeepers?

@UnlikelyJeepLady

Whose "they" ?

Yes, sourcing an OEM windshield for a 2024 JL with the integrated antenna may take a month +-.

This rock strike / broken windshield is not something covered under the Jeep's factory warranty regardless how long the crack is..

Would they not replace it because it wasn’t 6” long? If that’s the case, park it in the sun for a few days, it will probably spread, then you can try again!

I'm still trying to get clarification from her on the 6" specification. It's way larger than 6".

Good to know this isn't covered under warranty. I'll let her know. I'm sure she's going to have to go through her own insurance. She's just upset because she's only had it a couple of weeks.

If you own a Jeep, it's worth checking/verifying that your insurance has a nondeductible windshield replacement feature. I have State Farm and don't pay for replacements, nor do they impact my premium. Two replacements in, no issues.

There is a easy tell for when a Dealer Service writer is lying. Their lips move.
I distrust the dealers as much as the next person, but rock-induced windshield damage is never covered under warranty. Not sure how they are lying in this instance.

Hell...we don't even know who is being referenced as "they". Add that to the mysterious 6" section comment (on an obviously much larger crack) and I think we are getting story that is hard to understand.

Other than the hard-to-get 2024 windshield, this is a garden-variety broken windshield.

Gorilla glass unfortunately , isn’t special glass. I honestly think it’s worse. I would go through my insurance to get something like this covered , not Jeeps warranty.

This! We have state farm as well and it’s definitely come in handy .

This is a very good thing for me to look into.

As for everyone else, I'm sure she must have contacted the dealer she got the car from and they were no help so she's just upset. I'm just passing some good info from all of you on to her so she can resolve it in the best way possible.

Two things. In nearly 25 years as a Jeeper I have never had windshield damage - WTF. Second, even so, I carry zero deductible coverage. [My wife's bad luck offsets my good luck]

Unlike a bumper-to-bumper extended warranty, the window coverage easily pays for itself - how do the insurance companies afford to offer it?
