I own 2 Jeeps and the newest one (2023) has the Jeep Gorilla glass warranty. Opened a Jeep Cares case, went to a dealer, dealer worked with Jeep Cares, and the windshield was replaced. I am also on my 3rd windshield for my 2021 and I have no deductible for windshields with State Farm. I pay a little extra per year but I am way ahead for what I would have paid for 3 windshield deductibles.

I thought the whole idea behind Gorilla Glass was that it was tougher and more resistant to chips or cracks. If it has a 2 year warranty, what the heck does it cover if not chips and cracks? I mean, what else could really go wrong with a windshield other than chips and cracks, which are almost always from debris kicked up by vehicle tires!

i bet the 6 inch applies to weather they can repair the glass not replace it. ive seen that on tv where if the chip or crack is less than 6inches it can be repaired .:) saw this product on youtube wonder if it works

Friend of mine bought a new Rubi off the lot a couple of weeks ago. A large truck threw a large rock and it hit her windshield cracking the glass. They are telling her they only cover a 6" section so this isn't covered. And they can't find a replacement right now. Does this sound right?

Any advice from you seasoned Jeepers?

Due to a rock being the culprit(clearly marked from the paint chips) it would fall under Auto Insurance. NOT WARRANTY. Most insurance covers windshield, but verify with them that you want MANUFACTURERS REPLACEMENT.

If you own a Jeep, it's worth checking/verifying that your insurance has a nondeductible windshield replacement feature. I have State Farm and don't pay for replacements, nor do they impact my premium. Two replacements in, no issues.
Unless it's mandated by local laws, $0 deductible glass replacement endorsements do affect your premium.

that's a common misunderstanding, not helped by the marketing.

Gorilla Glass windshields are exactly the same Soda Ash glass on the outside layer; the stronger Corning glass is the inner layer.
the biggest benefits are that it makes for a thinner, lighter stack that is more resistant to breaking and allowing a projectile to come through it.
the fact that the Soda Ash glass on the outer layer is thicker might make for some slightly lower likelyhood of chips and cracks, but it's not going to prevent them.

In CO I finally added $0 deductible windshield coverage a year or two ago, and added it to the policy for my new Wrangler. The new collision-avoidance systems made the cost of placement insanely expensive, and even without that, the cost to replace my Wrangler's windshield got pricey. The cost was added to my comprehensive coverage; it was fairly cheap, especially compared to the price of a windshield. I know it was less than adding it to the extended warranty plan.

They will repair if under some small length that I do not recall (seems like less than 6", more like 2"~3"). Out here, a chip will often (usually) spread beyond the limit overnight due to the day/night temperature variation, so I've never been able to get it in for repair before the crack spread too much.

Texas must be one of those places then cause I've had two replacements over two years and nary a peep out of my agent.

This is a very good thing for me to look into.

As for everyone else, I'm sure she must have contacted the dealer she got the car from and they were no help so she's just upset. I'm just passing some good info from all of you on to her so she can resolve it in the best way possible.
It's great you are tryin to help your friend but you should have her join the forum. That way when she has a question or issue, she can provide first hand info. She could also learn a lot just reading threads...

The big insurance carriers offer and several states require a zero deductible windshield replacement. I’ve had a crack in my windshield before, not Jeep, and it really didn’t bother me but after two years I eventually had it replaced with a zero deductible in Florida.

Never be the first car behind a big rig. They’re always flinging debris.
I agree, but it is mostly those dump trucks. They have a big sign on the back that says "Not Responsible For Broken Windshields". BS, you eject cargo and break my windshield means your fault.

No different than my spare tire falling off my Jeep at 80mph and caving in the front of your car.

It is amazing the number of folks tailgating dump trucks in nice rides.

I'm still trying to get clarification from her on the 6" specification. It's way larger than 6".

Good to know this isn't covered under warranty. I'll let her know. I'm sure she's going to have to go through her own insurance. She's just upset because she's only had it a couple of weeks.
If it makes her feel better I got a chip turn into a crack 5 miles from the dealership on the day I bought my 2023 JT. Called the sales man and all he said was “Rough, that sucks”. I know it doesn’t help but I guess I have a shared experience.

I thought the Corning Gorilla Glass came with a 2 year warrant, did she try contacting Corning direct?
I'm pretty sure she just went to the dealer. She had bought the extra warranty, but I guess it has some stipulations. She's handling it through her insurance.
