.5% is better than pure speculation, but alas it is a guess based on other unverified comments. I also consider the term "pure speculation" to be impolite although par for the course around here. Where does the 12,000 backorder number come from? Do you have a reliable source, or did you just see it in another forum or post here with no source mentioned. One member here said his parts came in after about a week. That's unverified, but doesn't sound like a 12k backorder. Perhaps a class action suit will be filed and throw some light on the subject. Or, perhaps the problem isn't bad enough to interest a greedy class action lawyer.And that number you are using is pure speculation as well. The truth is it has happened enough that there were over 12,000 orders placed and on backorder for the passenger camshafts. That's a lot. Part of that is due to a new part coming out so there was a period of no availability while the stock was replenished, but that still speaks to it being more common than you are alluding to. The truth in numbers would only be ascertained by having the total number of cams sold, and we don't have that.
Yes, engines are failing, but this thread makes it sound a lot worse than the reality. I think there is a cultural problem in this forum.
