Do you have any idea of how many vehicles with the PUG they sell? If the situation is that bad, we would reading about it on automotive sites, and not just here.
I agree. I believe they are.

Not sure what you mean there. If enough of these engines fail eventually some are going to stall in traffic and a recall might result. Then again, if parts are on a long waiting list what good does that do? Maybe they will do like GM and tell us to get an oil change.

If anyone has information that is not from a verifiable source, I'd love to see it. So far all we have is a TSB which is no more than instructions on how to fix it.

To me, the TSB tells dealerships how to address the condition at this time. Nothing more. It neither identifies the specific cause, nor states that the replacement of the parts listed corrects the manufacturing defect of the affected production range. However, it does identify the affected production range. It reads a lot like the clutch fixes that came along, but didn't correct the defective design. For example, if the head or block contains the defect, replacing valvetrain components just resets the clock on that engine and where it stands in the MTBF picture.

Well I guess add one more. What is "FORM"?
It’s a 4Xe thing whereby the system forces you to run the gas engine for a certain amount of time to use up the fuel so, as stated, the fuel doesn’t go bad and gum up the injectors etc. Anyone who drives enough to regularly run the gas engine may never see FORM come up.

I got out to open my driveway gate after going a couple hundred miles in this refreshing desert heat & heard a brand new sound over the airplane engine hum a/c fan. Is this video what the knock in question sounds like or is it a different knock being discussed? The video is what mine sounded like. Never heard it before but I'll fire her up tomorrow with the hood up & see what I hear. Maybe its just the heat? Production date 7/24.

Edit to add ran diagnostics last week on JScan & only got 2 trouble codes for emergency assistance module & telematic box module, which are a known thing thats been going on for a minute for me which is not worth my time taking her into the dealership for rn.

the way it fails is the camshaft gets worn down. this means itll start misfiring at higher RPM at first and slowly work its way down. this is because the cam is no longer able to open the valves as far as they need to for high RPM operation. as it continues to wear they open less and less until you're misfiring at idle.

Yes it sounds sort of like this... This is a remanufactured engine that was replaced less than 700 miles ago. I noticed the tick after driving it 35 miles home from the dealership.
And no, I don't think this is Stellantis' or the engine rebuilders fault... I've got another video of the tech that replaced it putting debris into the valvetrain (not sure if it was intentional or just negligent.)

Thanks for the explanation. Question, will misfire code(s) be apparent at high rpm, 5k or so?

You're pretty generous to Jeep, after all the valvetrain failures which have happened and testimonials to perfect maintenance. This video sums up my thoughts on the Pentastar.

If you don't want to watch the whole video, skip to 10:10.

If you are interested in how bad these Pentastar engines really are, watch this one.

i hate these videos because camshaft repairs, like on that JK, are such piss easy repairs that they're way overblown. ignorance spreads fear. the engine is really easy to work on compared to our more modern offerings

I think I have to be generous to Jeep considering the most likely explanation is technician ignorance/negligence/malice...

The biggest problem seems to be who is doing the repair and is it all done properly. Even the remanufactured engines seem to be an issue. Is this a valve train break in issue or insufficient valve train lube on installation ?
