Base Rubicon is only $50k. You specified Rubicon X which means it's more comparable to the desert boss. Adding the X package automatically adds the auto trans, and its $60k with the v6 or $58k with the 2.0t. Yes you can option it out to $70k but you can do the same on the zr2.

I don't think my dealer could get me the auto tranny with 2.0. v6 only. I could build it on the website but not at dealership.

That's weird because they've never sold a JL with a manual behind anything but the V6. Every other engine option is auto only.

It’s not the money itself for me as much as getting a $30k vehicle for that $60k.

Other options in the price range are generally built better and have more comfort and options for the price.

The market will return my money when the time comes, but until then I’m stuck driving a noisy breadbox while sitting on a park bench.

Completely understand how the market in general would hit an upper limit here and maybe we’ve found it.

 You are reminding me of driving a 1978 Dodge Prospector pickup. The suspension on that thing was BRUTAL.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Jeeps aren't that expensive compared to other vehicles. The problem is that most of us don't want a Jeep... we want a loaded Jeep. And, yeah, once you get away from the base model 2-door Sport they get increasingly expensive... shocker. But the great thing about a Jeep compared to a lot of other vehicles is that you can buy that base model and upgrade it over time thanks to a huge aftermarket.

The most lucrative profit center for grocery stores is usually the delicatessen. There's a decent parallel between that and the myriad of new-vehicle options and associated packages, or "groups". That's where the money is, and has been, for the OEMs.

Stellantis isn't pricing anything higher than what a plurality of the Wrangler-buying market has made achingly plain that they are willing to pay for.

This argument is intellectually dishonest.

Sure, if you have unlimited funds, you can upgrade anything over time. That's true with anything. I follow a channel on YouTube, Boosted Boiz or something like that, and they have a 9 second mid-90's minivan.

It's always funny to me that every time someone says "The Base Wrangler is a great deal", they nearly immediately follow up with "something... something.. and you can upgrade it over time!". So what you are really saying is "what you get for the money isn't enough, but you can spread out the costs over time if you get a Sport, but you will still, inevitably, not be happy with the sport base".

First off, having written it, I can tell you there's nothing dishonest, and certainly nothing intellectual about it. But for the record, the base model is a good deal and I'm sure any number of people thoroughly enjoy their Jeep bone-stock. For those who might not, they also can upgrade it over time if they choose and it doesn't take unlimited funds to do so... just money. But thanks for telling me what I was "really saying"... :)

I'll say a fully loaded JL with the SOT is the best bang for your buck/fun vehicle out there.
I've driven mostly commuter cars so I've driven with as much as I can muster smile on my face the last two years.
The upcoming JEEP Recon with probably start in the mid 40k range.

so called nicer vehicles back then are cheaper than wrangler today. Do you remember last time when you could get a bmw all wheel drive for 39100 msrp with led lights, auto, heated seats for 500, and all other options priced much lower than similar ones in wrangler?

most new Tesla’s are cheaper than wrangler. Some German cars, suvs included. Japanese are all cheaper and better equipped.
Comparing apples to oranges, and the Taco isn't even comparable if you're looking at base 2 wheel drives.

Today: “UAW Expands Strike as 6,800 Workers at Stellantis Pickup Truck Plant Walk Out”

No intended offense to anyone, IMO this is a prime example of not only JEEP, but to all out of control pricing. With UAW Buick & Cadillac paying +$40 hourly wage + benefits to most line workers, fast food workers @+$18, most construction trades and many other businesses unable to fill their help wanted (needed) positions, albeit fewer folks desiring to physically work, what can we expect?

Sooner or later, those without the desire to work are going to have to eat and/or have a place to live.

First the pandemic and now inflation have allowed the automakers to try and hide their greed. Stellantis is right at the top. There is no way that any Jeep should be over 60K fully optioned. It’s beginning to bite them in the backside.
