I remote start the jeep and let it warm up which is about 30 seconds. Getting to my destination typically drive easier and just shut off. The jeep will take care of itself from there.

I take a roundabout way to get on to the highway, which is otherwise very close to the house, to let the Jeep warm up. But I never remember to let it idle before I shut it off.

I remote start mine 99% of the time so it warms up. Wish they had a turbo timer like they have for the import cars that would work on this. For the cool down side

Thanks for the detailed responses. Ill plan on letting idle before turn off. Odd they took that out for the 2024 manual. Same turbo i beleive.

And all of this good advice is completely ignored by the 4Xe when the ICE kicks in because the battery is depleted or the driver floors it.

Or one with ESS. I use a start-stop eliminator which programs the Jeep to remember what the last auto start-stop setting was, which was OFF. Besides automatically stopping the turbo when you're stopped at a stop light in the baking Texas sun, it's just annoying and I've never liked it. Although, if then engine temp is too high, it won't stop on you or it will restart pretty quick... which is also very annoying.

I guess it's a good thing I have to get out and open my gate to park. My remote start already takes care of the first part.

I had an 89 944 Turbo S Porsche and it came equipped with a mini coolant pump solely dedicated for the turbo after shut down. It would stay on for a few minutes until the temps dropped. That was back in 89!! I can't believe that these modern Turbo engines do not come equipped with that pump!

In the early days of old school import turbos, when people were still using dyno oil, coking in the main bearing was an issue. I remember on my Eclipse I even had a turbo timer to let it idle down for 1-2 minutes on it's own.

These days with Synthetics it's far less of a concern. Unless you're drag racing on your little side street before you pull into the driveway, your ride though the neighborhood should cool it just fine. The only time I let it idle a minute is if I'm on a road trip and we immediately hop off the highway to a rest stop, I'll let that cool down for a minute at idle.
I remember those days. I recall drag racing a little turbo 4 cylinder with ungodly boost and opening the hood at night and seeing that turbo glowing red. That picture pops into my mind whenever I drive a turbo car.

my turbo is the 3.0 Diesel, but the theory is the same.

i remote start while i'm walking towards the vehicle (i like to be in the habit of knowing what it sounds like so i can hopefully recognize if it ever starts making untoward sounds), but it doesn't really have anything to do specifically with the turbo; there's no heat on the turbo at a start.
by the time i get my *stuff* together once i've entered the vehicle and start rolling, it's probably been a minute; i then drive gently until i start to see the Transmission temps come up to about 100*F.

at shutdown, i try to be aware of how hard i've been running it before shutdown, and make turning the engine off the last thing i do before i disembark. under extreme use i'll typically give it a minute or 2 longer, watching to see how fast Oil temps come down.

i've heard the EcoDs have a water cooled turbo, so that helps. i'm not sure about the 2.0 in question here.

Turbo timers are a thing of the past. You don’t need to idle when you get home. All vehicles equipped with a turbo these days have their own way of cooling at shut off. Not even the civic type R or the STI’s have turbo timers. I’ve spoken to all my tuner friends and it’s just not a thing anymore. But for piece of mind if you want to idle for a few seconds do it or just try to drive easy for the last mile to your destination.

The 2.0T has a liquid intercooler. The separate circuit has its own coolant reservoir at the front of the engine bay.

of course, but an intercooler isn’t for cooling the turbo when it’s heated.

Yes I have seen this it’s on the first page of this thread and in most situations most people are not going to be under load and will be ok to shut the car off without idle. Ive also said most turbo charged cars or jeeps… don’t require an idle period. So to reiterate and to be specific it’s not needed under normal operational use.

Which goes back to having a pump to cool the turbo down after shutdown so you don't have to sit their and idle. As an expensive repair I would rather have the pump for peace of mind.

Are you telling me there needs one to be one? The jeep has one and will engage after shutdown.
