Every time I start me 21’ JL 2.0L Turbo it makes a rattling sound. Once the engine is warm the rattling sounds goes away. I have had a dealership look at it and the could not get the engine to replicate the noise. The dealer put an oil additive in the vehicle to clean the internal pieces. Any idea what could be causing this rattling? I have included a video of the rattling and the additive used by the dealership. Please shoot your ideas I am taking back to the dealer this Thursday. TIA

The 2.0T is just plain noisy at start-up. Supposed to be due to the direct injection system from what others have told me. Mine sounds like a sewing machine for about a minute or so.

Mine sounds like it has a loose cat converter heat shield

You guys ever figure this out? Mine started doing it this week. When it does it sounds awful. Also sounds like a heat shield but goes away under load.

I am very surprised, that your Dealer put in a oil additive as the solution…that is just crazy… engine oil additives, are just unheard of, or needed in modern day technology engines.

Curious if you got it corrected and did the oil additive help? I took mine in for this noise upon cold start and they replaced a drive belt tensioner and it’s still there. Currently waiting on an a/c compressor. But I have my doubts that will fix it since I have a 4xe with electric a/c. But same 2.0

Mine has always sound more diesel like than the Jeep Diesel on cold starts. Magnified of course by the garage, but it is fine, it calms down as it worms up.

I can only agree with that.
You could think that it´s a Diesel during the first minutes after a cold start.
Mine sounds the same. But it seems to be OK. My dealer said that all 2.0s sound like that.

But the sound of the engine that have been posted in post#2 sounds realy awful.

Similar to this sound?

Mine has been doing this for a while. Easy to replicate if warm, let it sit for 15-20min and then start it you’ll hear the rattle. But it does go away eventually. Mine is an 18 2.0 etorque

I've had two new 2.0s in the past 8 months. They both sounded like that on startup.

Not saying its OK they do, but am saying it's just the way they are.

I really would like an official explanation from Jeep tho.
