I’m located in Sacramento area and been trying to get the HPFP recall taken care of. I have not had any issues and really don’t expect to, but need to get this taken care of because the Jeep recall letter states that DMV will not renew my registration without it being done. Mine is due in June so I’m trying to be proactive on this knowing there are waiting lists.

I put my name on a list at the closest dealer to me earlier this month but I had to explain to them that people were having these replaced when they told me that parts weren’t available yet. Just called to check status and they told me that not all parts are available. I had them confirm to me that they had not replaced ANY pumps yet.

Just called a second dealer, who is more well known for supporting jeeps, and asked to be in the list. They took my VIN and looked it up. Said all parts were on back order and didn’t know how long it would be but put me on the list. I asked how long was the list and she said it was relatively short compared to many of their other recall lists. I am number 73 and other lists are over 300+.

Things are not looking good. I’m going to contact several others in the area. May need to pressure some contacts I know at state agencies about problems beyond the consumers control which are impacting their ability to comply with state registration policies.

UPDATE: just talked with another dealer well known in the Rubicon trail area and I’m now number 34 on that list. He said that he has done 4 so far and it’s all about parts availability. At least I finally talked with someone who 1) knows the situation and 2) has actually swapped some out. He did say that he’s heard that the state is aware that lack of parts is causing issues with people being able to do this in time for registration renewal.

Jeep owns this!!!
I also suspect that using EDT treatment religiously we won't see problems. However does affect sale and in your case registration. Shame on jeep for this debacle. Have been 'next in lime" for months.

From what I can tell each dealership gets one per week. Being number 34 would imply a 34-week wait.

Someone recently posted all the required part numbers. They apparently come in quick for customer orders. The poster was saying that Jeep will reimburse for those parts and will still do the work at a dealership. And no, I haven't searched for the post.

I ran into this issue in DFW, Tx in October when I bought my 2023 JLUR EcoDiesel FarOut edition. I waited over a month for the recall parts to be delivered and then installed before I was allowed to close the deal and take delivery. Herein lies the rub:

This info came from a separate dealer that I did not purchase from but was more than willing to explain the situation to me.

If a dealer has 12 diesels on the lot, and another 20 in line from folks who already own, they can order 32 HPFP recall kits, but Jeep/FCA/Stellantis whoever will only ship ONE kit at a time to each dealer, which then has to be installed and then that vehicles VIN number must be registered as recall completed before the dealer will be sent another kit. Due to the shortage in supply line of available kits, which is starting to get marginally better after the UAW strike resolution, parts are slowly starting to roll out, but because Jeep wants to make sure that EVERY EcoDiesel gets done properly, they are sticking to the 1 kit per 1 VIN repair at a time. The dealer prioritizes which vehicles get served first. Vehicles that are unsold go to the back of the line, priority goes to folks who already own and are coming in for recall repairs. Now, certain dealers are trying to slip in an unsold vehicle where they can so they can make a sale on one, and you will get pushback from them if you call them out on it.

What you can do to sort of expedite the process is go WAY out of town if you can. Find a dealer in some country town that doesn't have a long list and get added to their list. You may need to call around and ask how long their waiting list is for recall repairs on the HPFP. The caveat here is that once that recall part is shipped, you MUST to go to THAT dealer for the entire day to have the recall completed. The total install time takes approximately 6-7 hours, so make sure you have the first appointment in the morning when the shop opens and hopefully you will be done by early afternoon, but the smart play would be to plan on dropping the vehicle off overnight. Find a rural dealer that has a very small allotment of Wranglers as they will do a much smaller amount of recalls, but are still getting the 1 kit per VIN shipped and go with them. The inconvenience of a long drive in a Jeep is far less than the inconvenience of a 6 month wait.

I dont know how true or accurate this is, but i have heard that this worked for a few folks around Texas. I hope this helps a bit.

Here’s what I don’t understand about how the UAW strike impacted this. It’s not a Jeep manufactured fuel pump. Why would the strike in the US impact a fuel pump manufactured elsewhere?

I thought about doing this. Calling dealers say out in other surrounding states. I agree it would be worth the trip.

My pump and gasket is in but waiting on a pipe of some sort and a label. No word on when to expect the missing items. So far mine runs great.

I just received a recall for my 2014 eco diesel grand cherokee HPFP, so they are adding more to the demand side of the equation

Really odd set of circumstances you’re in, @RicRecon

My favorite dealership in Somerset, KY recently had six JLU diesels in stock…..all with the HPFP recalls done.

They were previously on a stop sale order; not sure if the stop sale orders have higher priority over customer owned recalls.

I've been trying to get this resolved for over a year. Mostly due to resale (can't trade in when there's an open safety recall) and the horrible time I've had with multiple leaks and incompetent "repairs." Finally in November notified that parts were available. Great. Except they aren't. Service Advisors have been saying every 2 weeks since that "parts aren't available and won't be until end of Q1. No waiting list. Check back in a month."

Opened case with @JeepCares and was told this week, in no uncertain terms, there is nothing they can or do to ensure this "Safety Recall" is performed on my vehicle until it has failed.

The rep said the dealers are allowed to order 1 recall kit per 14 days, though some larger dealers get double that allocation.

Awesome job again, Jeep! Safety is Job 3!

That's not accurate, correct? It's my understanding that the only restrictions are dealers selling new vehicles, but I obviously could be wrong.

In 2023 I was told by 2 Ford dealers, a Toyota dealer, and a Ram dealer they won't consider/take my Jeep as a trade because they can't resell it with the open recall that didn't have a resolution available.
