I have a couple of questions regarding the high pressure fuel pump recall:

Do they replace the fuel filter at the time of the recall?

I have a MORE engine and transmission skid plate - should I remove it for the new fuel pump installation?

The parts for the recall have been ordered ....

Thanks..

Following. Mine is scheduled for the 27th. I don't recall anyone saying they did the FF with it.

The HPFP is accessed from the top of the engine and the fuel filter isn't changed during the replacement (at least it wasn't on mine).

fuel filter should be replaced during the fuel service or any time anything is done with the fuel lines

Exactly. OP shouldn’t have to do anything unless the filter started to grenade or something, and they have to do additional work.

I took my jeep Friday to get inspected and they ordered the replacement and I just gotta take it back when it arrives. Painless so far!

Got mine my done last week. Took it in on Monday and picked it up Tuesday afternoon. FF was not part of the fix. No previous issues and was skeptical of having it done since I believe in not fixing what’s not broke but alas it’s still running like a champ! Love my diesel ❗

the fact that multiple people have said their fuel filters have not been changed during this service makes me want to not have it done at any of those dealerships

It makes me wonder why it isn’t done with the recall since from what I’ve read the Mopar recommendation is to change the fuel filter when the oil is changed. So one would think the filter would be changed during the recall. I’ve always changed the filter my self and plan to change it after the recall.

i've just always been told and read in manuals any time you take off fuel lines behind the filter you will want to flush the line and change the filter

The work being done to replace the pump is downstream of the fuel filter. There’d be no harm in changing the filter at that time, but would be no real benefit either. Unless it was time for it to be changed anyway.

Stella probably doesn't want to change the filter because
- they don't want to incur the additional co$t
- they don't want to take the risk of the average dealership mechanic introducing air or any other contaminants to the fuel system (which some people think is a contributing factor to the CP4.2 failures).

either way, it's about cost to them.

My dealership says they are waiting on gaskets (they have the pump) for over 6 weeks. Is there any way this can be expedited and we can finally get this recall done?

Hi Mitch,

Do you have an appointment scheduled with your dealership? If so, please send us a private message with your VIN. Thank you.

so, my pump was replaced last week while it was in for an unrelated Check Engine Light issue.

previously the same dealer had told me i'd have to schedule an appointment for an "Inspection" to determine if it had already contaminated the fuel system so they would know what parts to order before they did the replacement, but this time they reportedly had the parts in stock and it was handled alongside the other recalls and issues very matter-of-factly.

didn't get any paperwork, Users Manual Addendums, or stickers near the fuel filler as have been reported by some other folks. only sign anything had been done at all was a disturbance of the dirt pattern on the engine cover.
