short story- brought my 2018 Rubi with 59.9kmiles in to dealer to confirm my suspicion of blown head gasket. I had a P0301 code [cylinder 1 misfire], coolant dropped over the month of August and I could smell coolant at startup; rough idle at cold start. Dealer wants $3400 to replace RH head gasket.
Mopar customer service [1-800-399-2668] is holding firm that I'm SOL and its all out of my pocket; no good faith warranty, no escalation possible.

I am the second owner of this Jeep; bought used in late 2021 with under 10k miles. I know the powertrain warranty is 5yrs/60kmiles. PO used 4yrs/10k, I've owned/driven it for almost 4yrs/50k. How do we get consideration for good faith warranty extension?

And if that fails, what am I looking at for DIY replacing the RH head gasket? Seems kind of straight forward unless the scope creeps to left side, check the oil cooler, camshafts/lifters....

The warranty language is (IIRC) 5 years ~or~ 60K miles, whichever comes first. So even though you're under on mileage, it aged out two years ago.

The only way you'd have a longer powertrain warranty is if you bought it as a Certified Pre-Owned through a Jeep dealer. My son has up to 7 years or 100K from original in-service date on his '20 JLUR that he bought as a CPO in '23.

I think I'll tackle this myself. I know this is a lot of labor, there will be times I regret this decision (like those times I'm driving the minivan and impulsively throw up a Jeep wave lol).

What's the parts list I'd be looking at?
  • Engine gasket master set
  • Head bolts
  • spark plugs (might as well install new ones)

Coolant
Oil/filter change

Timing chain set, if you want to. We always sell chains with OHC head jobs. Send the head to a machine shop, don’t just R&R gaskets. Get the newest version of the PCV valve, and a new OEM thermostat.

I'd replace the oil cooler while your in there, it will never be easier. Might as well replace the plugs too.

As for the head, if you don't have a straightedge, you can pick one up on Amazon for a reasonable sum Check the flatness using it and a feeler gage set. If you are within spec, skip the machine shop.

After a brief glimmer of hope by getting a case # from Mopar cares...I just got the official word from dealership that my case was closed because there's no goodwill for anything older than 2019.

Why would there be? It’s not like you were a week out. You were two years out.

Replace the head, and do the other side while you're in there. It'll fail within the next 5k or so. The head bolts can almost always be re-used. Just check them for necking. They're under torqued from the factory (which is what caused your gasket failed to begin with) so they're most likely fine.

You can probably re-use the head as well, but we just always replace them while they're off unless money is tight.

what kind of funky bolt is this, with the extra set of threads under the flange head?

That looks like a stud, not a bolt. Head studs are stronger than bolts. Is that an OEM Mopar part, or aftermarket replacement?

Just went through this. Just do both heads.
As other have noted, have the heads sent to a machine shop. They resurfaced mine and replaced the valve seals.
Had them replace the water pump and wear parts on the chains while they were in there.
You should be able to get better pricing but here is the list.
Keeping in mind i had just done the oil cooler so that is not on this list:

So, what was your total, for both heads, labor and parts?
