Hey does anyone know what causes the head gasket failures? Is it the faulty oil cooler? Radiator split? Under torqued head bolts? I’m trying to see if there’s any preventative maintenance I can do on my 2018- I only have 38k miles on my 3.6 and I’ve heard they fail at 50-75k :/

Gee guess we were lucky, 120+K on ours and just started consuming coolant. No Oil Cooler failure either, No ticking either.

The "preventive" measure is damn near the cost of replacement. It's one of those things that just fails when it fails and you deal with it then.

I have a 2018 and mine started leaking around 74k. Luckily I had an extended warranty and it was covered, around $4200. I was told it was a torque issue. Not sure to much or not enough.

The repair would’ve been cost that much? What symptoms did you have?

Huge. What’s the price running you on that?

List price on the engine 6,100 book calls for 20 hrs labor. Estimates for doing gaskets and all associated would be in the 5,500 area .. No warranty beyond what the shops provided. Keeping the JKU For Ever; so this is less than buying another.

6100 with labor included doesn’t seem bad at all!

But that still stings quite a bit.

Not sure if I'm protecting mine, but I'm a firm believer these engines run too hot. Heat reduces emissions...great, but high coolant temp causes other problems. I've upgraded my '25 Sports S 3.6 with the Mishimoto radiator & 185° thermostat, and the RPM Extreme fan controller. I never see temps above 195°, and usually they're around mid 180s. Also, use a TRUE synthetic oil, with PAO & ester base, like Redline or Amzoil, not a "fake" synthetic, which are hydrocracked, refined dino oil. Maybe these help, maybe they don't, but they're fairly cheap insurance opposed to a replacement engine...

I can't say this will prevent the head gasket from failing put keeping the motor running cooler with the RPM extreme JL fan controller is the way to go.
My coolant and oil temps are down by 25 to 30 degrees with the RPM extreme JL fan controller.
