Hi Tech-Dude & ASMSAS,

Were you able to get in touch with your dealer to get an appointment scheduled for this recall? Our team would like to connect you with Case Specialists who will oversee this process and ensure that your concerns are addressed. In order to do so, please send us a private message at your earliest convenience.

Hi jroman,

Sorry to hear that your concerns are still present after your previous repair. Per the recall notice, the front suspension steering damper on your vehicle may not effectively damp oscillation of the steering system, resulting in a sustained shake or shimmy in the steering wheel. This can be more noticeable when driving at speeds exceeding 55mph after contacting a bumpy road surface and in temperatures below 40°Fahrenheit (5° Celsius).

With this in mind, I do recommend following up with your dealer for additional information regarding your situation as they are in the best position to assist. Our team is just a private message away if you are in need of any assistance with that process.

Got my recall slip today, mine steers perfectly w/ no steering play, rattles etc. Do you think I should still get this done??
The new part is a better part... so I say yes. I just completed my recall today and I had no apparent issues either. I don't like leaving recalls un-done.

did it today too. I feel no changes. don't think it will make a difference for me, and I too like to knock out the recalls

The tech argued he did it right until I showed him the arrow and the PDF lol. He just took it back to redo it. Smdh.

Mines exactly the same as yours. Folks Check your Oil and your V41 fancy dampers before you leave. I didnt and mines installed backwards as well.

I literally had to go to the service bay and show them how to mount the part correctly because he couldn’t figure out how to make the arrow face forward lmao. Oh well it’s fixed. I watched him torque it all too cause at that point I had little trust lol

So impressions on the 30 mile drive home. The changes are subtle and doesn’t do anything to change the dead spot on-center. It DOES however make the Jeep stay much more stable over bumps and grooves. It seems they’ve stiffened the damping rate of the stabilizer and the steering feels much more true over rough roads and bumps. Fewer input corrections required. It’s not life changing (my steering was never really bad) but it feels like an improvement.

Just ask @cosine he knows!
Wish I could just get the part & DIY the install since it seems too complicated for the "overfill the oil" crew :(
But I guess I'll get the recall done, and if it indeed is an improved damper then over time I'm sure it will make it worthwhile.
Thanks guys!

How long was it on incorrectly?

According to FCA, incorrect install could damage the part.

Less than 48 hours. Time will tell if it’s ok. Seems fine now.

My dead zone seems reduced, and theres a slightly better feel to whole steering. I'm happy it was done.

Oh, and mine is a 19.

Props to FCA for allowing for the reimbursement option. That not only lets you find an aftermarket solution, but enables you to install it correctly, too! Lol!

I noticed no change in the drivability of mine.

Of course, it's also nowhere near the temps that it's supposed to make a difference.

Nor did I drive my old one in those temps as I just got this Jeep in April and it was already warmer.

Just received my notice and taking my Jeep in today. My steering has been OK. Nice that it lines up with my 1st Jeep wave oil change service.
