I figured it was retirement, but couldn't resist a friendly jab!

Regarding, "Apple," it's not just a disparity in tech. Here's some info on the CEO of Ford (because it includes the ratio to mean employee salary).

"Ford CEO Jim Farley received total compensation of $22,813,174 in 2021 for running the company, according to documents the Dearborn automaker released Friday. The ratio of the CEO's total compensation to the median of all employees' total compensation is 356 to 1."

Stellantis's CEO "...received $18.9 million (16.8 million euro) in direct compensation during his first year leading Stellantis NV." <https://www.detroitnews.com/story/b...s-ceo-carlos-tavares-compensation/6972767001/>

To me, it's not just a matter of (in best cave man voice) "Execs make hard choices and work long hours so should get more money." It's more a matter of these jackholes make more than enough in a single year to never need to work again. Meanwhile their non-executive employees, myself included (I work for a large international company), go 10 years without a raise commensurate to their performance AND considerate of inflation/cost of living in the areas we're required to be in to work for the company.

It took 4+ years and a mass exodus (1000s) of low-level employees for my company to finally respond to calls for pay raises that simply align to inflation. Once we finally received them, we didn't breathe a collective sigh of any relief because our thoughts immediately shifted to, "ok, does this mean we won't get any merit-based raises for the next 3 years?"

When companies have more cash stockpiled than the collective GPD of multiple nations and continue to shower their executives with 10s or 100s of millions of dollars, but standard employees get told:

• "raises for them aren't in the budget this year,"

• or "we just don't have the money replace that increasingly dangerous faulty equipment that might maim or kill you if it fails during use,"

• or, "we know customers get really angry and throw their coffee/burger/drink in your face when they have to wait in long lines or you get their order wrong because of the stress of that line, but we don't have the money to hire more employees"

it becomes easier to see, for me at least, why people are abandoning these situations. They're not abandoning work, mind you, just these types of situations.

These companies could easily disperse 10s or 100s of millions of dollars to their own non-exec employees on a yearly basis and drastically increase the quality of life of millions of people at all economic levels. Yet, they want to stockpile company cash, which makes stock holders (the rich ones capable of buying influence) happy, which means their ridiculous exec pay package will get approved (by said rich stockholders), which means they can now by ANOTHER yacht that is 5ft longer than the one their buddy just bought...

Are there simply people who "just don't want to work" and game the system? Shit yes! But, in my opinion, focusing on that infinitesimally small number of cases is just the distraction the stupid-rich want us to focus on. Much easier to push a rage-inducing narrative abusing "handouts" or "entitlements" rather than find a humane solution that means they can't buy that third Ferrari or vacation home.
Stellantis has over 280,000 employees. If the CEO received exactly 0 dollars, the rest of the employees could share in...64 dollars each.

Probably need to do it yourself and then still bring it in for the recall to show it was done
No one will know it was done twice

So this really is the $64 question.
