Thanks to this thread I was able to fix the issues on my '19 JLU that many folks are having. Changed out the green and black Can Bus behind the glove box and have not had an issue in over a week and keeping fingers crossed that I finally fixed the issue. Has been a short amount of time, but I was having the issues on the regular, I started saying the Jeep was just having its daily seizure since it was doing it everyday and each time it would be a little different. Every light and message on the dash, sometimes was stuck in auto park, sometimes no power steering, sometimes wipers just randomly going, radiator fan ran so fast once I thought it was going to explode, would seem to lurch forward a little while in park, just weird things each time. The lights and messages on the dash were the constant each time though. Luckily I never had anything shut down while driving, lights came on, but drove fine.

Hopefully hearing that another person had good luck with the Can Bus swap will save some people some headache. Cost me $75 at the dealership but for that I will pay it, I was to the point of serious frustration. I didn't dare waste my time going to the dealership for the fix since it sounds like nobody has had any luck with that.

For those who have replaced this can bus in glove box area, would anyone mind to open up the bad bus and post some pictures? I'd be curious to see what it looks like inside a failing bus. Tia.

Posted this in a couple other threads also. Just trying to make this inexpensive but serious problem as easy as possible for folks to figure out on their own.

Plus 1 for another bad star connector. 2018 Sport JLU 3.6L. It took me a while to figure out as I had no prior experience with can bus. After learning from “Mechanic Mindset” on YouTube and buying the relatively inexpensive oscilloscope he recommended I was able to catch it acting up and could then replicate it by simply squeezing or twisting the circuit board of the star connector. Doing so would make the can bus signals go from clean to bad. Got a new one on eBay (https://www.ebay.com/itm/225158191142) for $13 like mentioned and after swapping over all the different plugs, gave it the squeeze and twist test with the oscilloscope hooked up, to which it passed. It’s been about a month or so with no problems or hiccups since.

Just a quick update:

I am a month or so out from swapping it out and still not a single issue. I have not opened up the old one yet, but I may do that out of curiosity.
Just glad I figured it out and hope others out there benefit from mine and some others experience with this super easy fix.

Hi Everyone,

Have a 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL Sahara Unlimited and having the same exact issues as described in this article, starting about a month ago. Took it in to a very trusted mechanic and they fixed a wire in the fuse box (or thought it might have to do with the auxiliary battery) and gave it bask to me 400 dollars later. Day after it started doing it again, and now wont even start after everything lit up like a Christmas tree. Just got it towed to the nearest mechanic, told them to check the Can Bus as mentioned. Hoping its fixed this time.

I am having the same issues Christmas tree does not even begin to describe it. It’s kinda scary to drive it. Someone is going to get hurt. Had mine in the shop for the 4th time today. Say they don’t know what it is. Don’t know where to start. While driving it into the shop today stuck in drive but would not move while turning onto the highway. Would not move. All lights going off. I’m afraid to drive it.

Just wondering if you had the CANBUS replaced and if it fixed it?

I sent this on to the shop and they are going to look into it. Hopefully they try that. Fingered crossed as I have lots of trips to the city to make and scared to drive my vehicle

Check the Green CANBUS behind the glove box and replace it. Its a super easy fix that anyone can do, remove glove box, the part clips in to a metal frame (kind of slides into a slot in the metal), take each plug out and replace into same spot in new one (one at a time so you don't mix them up), and reattach new where the old one was.

I have heard you can get them on eBay, I got mine from the dealership for 75 bucks. Haven't had an issues since replacing it and it was a daily occurance for a short time doing same as what yours is doing. Hope this helps!

Hey Quicker, I told the mechanic and they took out a water bottle that was jammed stuck behind my glove box and thought that might be it. Of course I get it home and next morning all lights on again lost power steering and fan going like crazy. I just parked it and called my local dealer and im going to pick up a can bus replacement now. I will let you know if replacing the can bus does it. has now been over a month and a half and 1000 dollars in repairs with no fix. Praying the can bus fix will do it! I will keep you posted.

That's where I got mine.

I’m new to this Forum I’m going to try to be as detailed as possible, but anyways I have a 2018 Jeep JL Sport, manual transmission 40,000mi, just out of warranty. A few weeks ago I started my Jeep, all of my dash light came on: ABS, service 4WD, service Stability control, Brake, Start Stop, and airbag light. All gauges not working. I hooked my reader on the Jeep and had several codes pop up all relating to ABS.

15 minutes of driving, my power steering would stop working. I got the Jeep to where I needed to go and attempted to stop and restart the vehicle but failed to even shut the engine off. I stalled the engine but still couldn’t get the rest of the vehicle to shut off completely.Just before I unplugged the battery I tried shutting the Jeep off and it worked. So about a half hour before I could even shut it off. I started the Jeep and all the lights that were on were off except the Check Engine. Now this same incident would happen at random times. It would be okay one day and chaos the next. Certain lights would pop up like check engine and stop/start. Once I see all my lights come on I’ll know that my power steering will turn off at any time and does.
(Recently: when power steering shuts off. It would now come on and off at random times. I’m in a situation where I don’t have power steering going around a sharp corner then all of a sudden my power steering kicks back on. Other times It would be driving normal then for a split second no power steering and on again causing me to jerk the steering wheel while driving. Then my dash will shut completely down and basically resets itself and warning lights are off, and Jeep is back to normal until the next incident occurs)

I got a hold of the the only dealership in town which doesn’t really have a great reputation. I had them do my second recall relating to my clutch (software update) and to check on my main issue. I got a call back the next day stating that the software update was done and they placed their Reader on it and had 87 codes. They cleared codes and had a technician drive it with no issues and sent it back my way. Service department was closed when I was able to get the Jeep. As soon as I started the vehicle all my lights were on. Sent it back to the dealer and it sat for a week and a half before someone looked at it. They called me and basically said they don’t know what the issue is and I would have 2 options and the 2 options are not guaranteed to work. One being to have a technician to tear down everything and inspect wiring (quoted 7 plus hours labor) or replace entire wiring harness. So I took the Jeep back because I’m not going to gamble over a grand on guess.

just wondering if anyone has had this issue or similar experience and what the causes were? Or any ideas. I’m currently taking my ESS battery out to test it and inspect it.

Should also mention that I’ve had some electronic issues ever since I got the Jeep new and never got resolved because dealership could not recreate it. May or may not be related to issues I am having now I don’t know. But seen some forums about it but little answers. My radio would go haywire and make a loud pop and completely shut off and reset erasing uconect data and resets clock.

I found the issue to be the CAN Bus. Green connector located behind the glove box. I found it by moving some wires and basically recreating everything while the Jeep was on run.

I replaced the CAN BUS and I haven’t had an issue since. Occasionally my stereo will shut off and restart, but other than have to change the the clock every few months, I haven’t had any other issues.

Honestly didn’t realize how big this thread got last couple years. Hope it helped a lot of people out that had this issue. Got a lot of information on this issue

Hey everyone, so far just replaced the green can bus which I picked up from the dealer for 75 plus tax. Right now its driving fine no issues but just replaced so I will keep everyone posted. fingers crossed and praying that fixed it. Heads up for anyone wary of replacing it themselves, its super easy. if you want to avoid frustration like I experienced make sure you have a tiny flathead screwdriver to unlock the connectors as you pull them out.

Good luck to everyone still having this issue, definitely try the can bus replacement!
