I had the same issues but unfortunately, it wasn’t the canbus, wasn’t bad batteries, wasn’t grounds or unseated fuses…. It appears to have been a bad power steering pump.

I replaced it and so far so good…. So if any of those suggestions don’t work, check the power steering pump.

Hey everyone, so far just replaced the green can bus which I picked up from the dealer for 75 plus tax. Right now its driving fine no issues but just replaced so I will keep everyone posted. fingers crossed and praying that fixed it. Heads up for anyone wary of replacing it themselves, its super easy. if you want to avoid frustration like I experienced make sure you have a tiny flathead screwdriver to unlock the connectors as you pull them out.

Good luck to everyone still having this issue, definitely try the can bus replacement!
Glad to hear so far so good! I did forget to mention the small screwdriver part to unplg them. Keep us posted!

Check the Green CANBUS behind the glove box and replace it. Its a super easy fix that anyone can do, remove glove box, the part clips in to a metal frame (kind of slides into a slot in the metal), take each plug out and replace into same spot in new one (one at a time so you don't mix them up), and reattach new where the old one was.

I have heard you can get them on eBay, I got mine from the dealership for 75 bucks. Haven't had an issues since replacing it and it was a daily occurance for a short time doing same as what yours is doing. Hope this helps!

Hey, quick question. How do you remove the white connectors from the green bus. I’m trying to pull them out and they’re not coming out.

I used a 90-degree pick to press the locking tab while gently prying the connectors out.

If you don't have a pick you can use a small screwdriver to push the locking tab in to pull the plug out.

jl wrangler sport 2 door
going through same shit.2019 wrangler jl sport 2 door manual. 68,000miles. started with flashing abs light 2months ago with then start stop not working given i replaced the aux battery 3 months before this happened delearship said both batteries needed replaced so i did that. moving forward 2 weeks agos i got all these codes ran the scanner because i got my dash lit up with every warning you can possibly imagine. every time it happened it wouldnt let me turn it over to off but wound turn over to acc. while making a weird noise(video attached) .finally it will turn over to off..one day on the turnpike the jeep did this but this time i lost my power steering. i called the dealership and they now have the jeep and i have a rental.dealership has driven it over 300miles and not one code is popping up and they cant replicate the flashing dashboard or powering steering loss.i called a jeep advisor today. this is a huge liability issue.if the dealership returns it to me and doesnt fix it if i get into a accident especially on the turnpike and kill someone . disappointed

and will never buy a wrangler again if this isnt resolved

Hey Kate from Jeep how come I haven’t been asked to contact you privately, or just do us all a favor and fix the god d*#n thing already its not like its one or two jeeps this is happening to and its a major problem that cause lose of power steering as well as a bunch of other things and while being a normal person and a person that has drive for about 30 years when your car has power steering and you randomly lose it thats a MAJOR Safety issue whether the jeep is in warranty or out of warrant. With that said My wife and daughter both drive the jeep luckily it hasn’t happened to them because when I have lost power steering I a grown man also a firefighter so I have a little strength, I mean I can barely turn the wheel so Is Jeep and Dodge going to wait for a major Tragedy to some unexpected family before we fix this F’n problem. Why can’t this muilt million dollar company fix the problem. Heres my most common problem after lights come on and decide I can move anymore.

Granite,
When it is doing that open your glove box like all the way to get behind it into the dash. Tap on that green CANBUS connector to see if it stops the problem while it is flipping out (Scroll up and there are pictures of it). That is how I found out it was that and replaced it and have not had a single issue since, and mine was doing same thing yours is. I tapped on it while it was doing all the crazy lights and warning signals and it stopped after tapping on it. I have heard it has to do with some of the solder on the inside of that part maybe breaking loose or something.

Hope that helps.

I had power steering go out in the oregon gorge at 70. No where to pull over. Had to muscle through and hope I would make it. Jeep went totally nuts. Found out when I got home, Can Bus behind glove box was bad. So I had to replace them both. Now the only issue I'm seeing is power steering codes. But power steering is still working. This is a huge issue. And I agree with you it needs to be addressed

I'm wondering if the Can Bus is being fried by the steering pump failure. Possibly the steering pump is about to fail, frys the Buss. And then Christmas Time peoples. I wonder if tying in small fuse would stop this. Man if I'm right we will be rich.

Did OP ever post if this got resolved for him? My 2018 JLUR is at the dealership now with this same issue. This would be day 10 as of this posting.

Honestly I don’t think anyone has even touched it yet. My AirTag shows it hasn’t moved from the lot since it was dropped off.

I’m new to this Forum I’m going to try to be as detailed as possible, but anyways I have a 2018 Jeep JL Sport, manual transmission 40,000mi, just out of warranty. A few weeks ago I started my Jeep, all of my dash light came on: ABS, service 4WD, service Stability control, Brake, Start Stop, and airbag light. All gauges not working. I hooked my reader on the Jeep and had several codes pop up all relating to ABS.

15 minutes of driving, my power steering would stop working. I got the Jeep to where I needed to go and attempted to stop and restart the vehicle but failed to even shut the engine off. I stalled the engine but still couldn’t get the rest of the vehicle to shut off completely.Just before I unplugged the battery I tried shutting the Jeep off and it worked. So about a half hour before I could even shut it off. I started the Jeep and all the lights that were on were off except the Check Engine. Now this same incident would happen at random times. It would be okay one day and chaos the next. Certain lights would pop up like check engine and stop/start. Once I see all my lights come on I’ll know that my power steering will turn off at any time and does.
(Recently: when power steering shuts off. It would now come on and off at random times. I’m in a situation where I don’t have power steering going around a sharp corner then all of a sudden my power steering kicks back on. Other times It would be driving normal then for a split second no power steering and on again causing me to jerk the steering wheel while driving. Then my dash will shut completely down and basically resets itself and warning lights are off, and Jeep is back to normal until the next incident occurs)

I got a hold of the the only dealership in town which doesn’t really have a great reputation. I had them do my second recall relating to my clutch (software update) and to check on my main issue. I got a call back the next day stating that the software update was done and they placed their Reader on it and had 87 codes. They cleared codes and had a technician drive it with no issues and sent it back my way. Service department was closed when I was able to get the Jeep. As soon as I started the vehicle all my lights were on. Sent it back to the dealer and it sat for a week and a half before someone looked at it. They called me and basically said they don’t know what the issue is and I would have 2 options and the 2 options are not guaranteed to work. One being to have a technician to tear down everything and inspect wiring (quoted 7 plus hours labor) or replace entire wiring harness. So I took the Jeep back because I’m not going to gamble over a grand on guess.

just wondering if anyone has had this issue or similar experience and what the causes were? Or any ideas. I’m currently taking my ESS battery out to test it and inspect it.

Should also mention that I’ve had some electronic issues ever since I got the Jeep new and never got resolved because dealership could not recreate it. May or may not be related to issues I am having now I don’t know. But seen some forums about it but little answers. My radio would go haywire and make a loud pop and completely shut off and reset erasing uconect data and resets clock.

Another fourm I read with a guy basically had the same issues. After a month in the dealer they came up with CAN BUS connector, then the thread stopped so not sure it was a fix or not. So I figured to go through all the basics.
Often it is the can bus behind the glove box. I had every ground cleaned. 2 new batteries, and a new shift module each repair lasted a few miles. The problem was the can bus, the green one behind the glove box. Problem solved 1500 miles. Now I have the glove box in the back seat so I can wiggle the leftmost wire in the new green can bus as needed. I have another new can bus but can not get the wires out to change. The can bus is $97 and I need to find out the trick to unplug the wires, I did not change the first one. They are cheap little shit things and will probably never be dependable. I have had R/C with better wiring!

The can buses are pure crap. They have micro pins in them and are not up to the job they were intended for. The whole system looks like a disaster to me. The guy who thought it would be good to use a motorcycle battery to start a Jeep needs his pink slip. I have already bought my replacement vehicle, a 2000 TJ Sahara 4.0. Over-engineered and underdeveloped. Very sad, they won't age well.
