I've got it on my 2015 Cherokee. I didn't even know I had it, until I was on my way home from the dealer, and thought it broke down on me before I even put a few miles on it. O_O LOL! At first, I absolutely hated it! But then (over time) I actually got used to it. Once you get used to it, it's actually not so bad. Whenever it does get on my nerves, I just hit the button to disable it.

It is on the Manual transmission as well. As far as my understanding, if you are stopped, in neutral and let the clutch out then the engine will shut off. Once you press in the clutch to shift into gear the engine will restart.
I can confirm this. I like it on the manual. I only put it in neutral at long lights and slow drive thrus.

It doesn’t bother me at all. Just leave the clutch pedal in if I know I’m going to be taking off quickly. For automatics, I would guess you’d have to feather the brakes a little to keep it from engaging. But for long waits, it’s great and not intrusive at all

I agree that it’s not too bad on the manual. At most lights I just leave it in gear with the clutch in, so it doesn’t shut off. If I know it will be a long light I’ll pop it into neutral and let is shut off for a minute.

I must have learned to drive a manual the wrong way, I'm never stopped in neutral with the clutch out. Always in gear, clutch in and ready to go.
that puts wear and tear on the clutch bearing according to an old car talk episode.

Well back in the Day when I still drove manual (Sold the Mustang in January) I'd let the clutch out at long lights and stop signs, but if I knew I'd be moving again quickly, I'd keep the clutch pressed and shifter in 1st.

Can someone confirm that 'stop-start' is a feature for automatics only? If it does come on the manuals, how does that work?
I've learned to 'feather' the brake and it stays running. Hot weather (a/c cutoff) and start/restart would wear on the starter, IMO.

MB and other German cars have had this for a while. It is interesting to hear the differing opinions on the topic. I have the opportunity to travel all over for work and most rentals especially in the EU have the option so I am somewhat use to it; having it on the JL wasn't a huge shock. Actually with the top off and sitting at a stop light with no other cars around it is actually kind of nice to hear nothing.

I did notice that the system seems to be slightly dependent upon break pressure. When I stop at at a light with my foot on the break lightly it doesn't seem to engage, further pressure then holding actually turns the motor off. I'll do some more testing on that but I feel like I can control the on/off of the rig with my break pedal.

As for wear, starters are function tested and built much better than they were in the past. I also bough the Mopar lifetime warranty so that adds little comfort knowing if it dies I just take it to the dealer. Even with a potentially higher quality build, something that is expected to function 500k+ times during its lifetime is bound to give out at some point.

Yes, people complain about the possibility of the starter wearing out, but of all the vehicles I have owned I've never had to replace a starter.

Head-gasket on my 1992 Saturn SL
Power Steering Pump twice on my 2000 Dakota
Fuel Pump twice on my 2000 Dakota
Fuel Pump on my 2002 Mustang
Automatic Transmission issues on my 2010 Ram 1500...

The list can go on but nobody complains about those components.

This. I like the start/stop - helps conserve at long lights. But driving in heavy traffic everyday, most of the time I have the clutch fully engaged and go. Old school cats always harp on how continually feathering the clutch on cars is a no-no (dry vs wet like on motorcycle) but the gap has grown smaller as cars/technology get more advanced.

Exactly, I do the same with my motorcycle. Especially since sometimes I have to search for neutral instead of jumping to 2d gear.

I just got my jeep in July and I love the feature. However, I was only able to enjoy it for the stop and go traffic from the dealership headed towards the highway for 20 minutes due to a bunch of service lights coming on. Some sensor in the front right tire was "bad" so hopefully after this Monday I can have that brand new jeep feel that I should have had!

I have the 6speed manual. I like the stop/start. My first thought was BFD the engine shut off, is this really what people are losing their minds over??...although there should be a permanent disable for those that don't want this. For me if it saves a bit on gas, that's a bit more money I have for accessories or paying this loan off.
