You can date hippie chicks and talk about how you are trying to do your part to save the environment. Every time it restarts mention how great it is.

The most annoying thing is how it starts the engine back up when you go from "Drive" to "Park" at the end of your trip. Pull into garage, engine stops while still in drive, shift to park, engine starts back up just so that I can turn it off
This....it's driving me bonkers, also it's not exactly smooth. I'd be Ok with it if it was a single "rr-vrum" to start but on my Jeep at least it's at least "rr-rr-rr-vrum" to start. Stopping there is often a bit of a shake and over run "da-da-d".

I'm practicing my description to the service manager for when I take it in to get checked.

In my wife's Pilot, that's one of the conditions that would restart the engine: turning the wheel. Maybe the Jeep's ESS works the same way?
It does - tried it this morning. Engine was off at stop light, kept my foot on the brake and just turned the steering wheel, engine fired back up

I had a Cherokee Tailed Trail hawk for a rental last week and the ESS is definitely not as smooth as my Highlander. I'm hoping my JL is smooth like the Toyota.

This was the biggest thing holding me up from ordering. I guess I don't have a choice so I'll deal with it. It will take time to get used to.

I've driven many ESS vehicles in Europe. They're a little odd at first, but I don't anticipate it being any big deal

I actually like it when I'm at a long red light and the ESS kicks in. If I'm ever in a situation like heavy stop and go traffic where it will get annoying, well that's what the disable button is for. My only actual gripe about the ESS is when I pull into a parking spot and it shuts off as soon as I'm shifting into park and it restarts the engine as its shutting off... I wish it was like some of the other ESS vehicles I've driven that leaves the engine off if you shift into park.

It will just be a matter of time before there is an aftermarket offering or a hack of some sort that will allow you to turn off the start-stop on a JL.

I recommend giving it a chance before spending money on a reprogramming that might also void the warranty.

Yep I said the same thing earlier in the thread. Definitely hope that they have some software fix to avoid having it start back up again when you put it in Park, just to then turn it right back off.

I didn't like it when I first got the Jeep. It was my first vehicle with start-stop. Once I figured out that it only kicks in when I have the brake depressed beyond a specific point it started to be kind of convenient. I usually drive with pretty light braking, so it doesn't usually activate unless I consciously depress the pedal deeper than usual.

It's kind of handy at a drive-through where I can hear the teller/cashier easier.
