I didn't like it when I first got the Jeep. It was my first vehicle with start-stop. Once I figured out that it only kicks in when I have the brake depressed beyond a specific point it started to be kind of convenient. I usually drive with pretty light braking, so it doesn't usually activate unless I consciously depress the pedal deeper than usual.

It's kind of handy at a drive-through where I can hear the teller/cashier easier.
You said you drive with a light foot anyways but those aggressive drivers  can ease back a bit and save themselves from early tire / brake pad replacement too! Maybe they did it on purpose to slow the aggression! :jk:

Awesome, its good to see someone learning the system and using it to their advantage. Not all situations call for an immediate ESS shutoff (Like a stop sign) and the brake pedal hint should be helpful.

Same here. Now that I know what the braking threshold is I like the feature and use it to my advantage. Pull up to a line of cars at a stop light that just turned green? Light braking. A car in the line not paying attention and not moving causing me to miss the light? Firm the brake pressure and kill the engine.

I know this is a feature that hs been around for a long time, especially on German cars, but I’m really curious what this will do to starter/ ring gear life. Or even catalytic converter life with the constant heating/ cooling cycles.

I had the same concern on the starting of the engine many times as we have all been brought up to understand that shutting the engine down for a few minutes is not good for it. We have heard that they designed the components to handle this but only time will tell IMO.

As for catalytic converter heating and cooling the engine is not off long enough for this to really be an issue I don't think. That thing is hot and will take a lot longer to actually cool off between the ESS events I would think.

I don't like it, that's why I have disabled it.
Yeah, but that light on, on the dash as a result of the work around would drive me nuts..

I have read the opposite, so I have no idea what to believe.

Overall I don't like it, but if i was assured that its not causing any additional wear to my vehicle I may dislike it a little less. Until then, I will remain in the habit of hitting that little disable button every time I get in.
I’ve seen some YouTube videos by people discounting a hood sensor to turn the ESS off. I personally do not like the idea of disconnecting something but I thought I’d let you know.

My plan is to hire a monkey to press the ESS button for me every time I enter the vehicle. Problem solved.
I just heard the ESS is disabled when pulling a trailer? Anyone know for sure? If so I’ll just plug in a trailer hitch receiver brake light and bye-bye ESS!

A Ford dealer has a Youtube Video out on how to disable Ford ESS. He recommends using a 7-conductor tester...it shuts off ESS. Has any tried a receiver brake light or tester on their Tow Package Jeep yet? If it works, I will use a brake light...dual use...braking and shutting off ESS.

It kind of makes sense if it goes into an automatic Tow/Haul mode when a trailer is plugged in. You might find your transmission (If automatic) will behave differently if that is the case. It might drive your mileage down if it holds a gear for longer than it should while unloaded.

I have a 7 way to 4 pin adapter that has a light built in. I can check this evening to see if that affects anything.

Can someone confirm that 'stop-start' is a feature for automatics only? If it does come on the manuals, how does that work?

It is on the Manual transmission as well. As far as my understanding, if you are stopped, in neutral and let the clutch out then the engine will shut off. Once you press in the clutch to shift into gear the engine will restart.
