Should it had been flushed instead ? If not when should I do it again and i wander how much is left in there by not flushing it vs just draining it ?

Okay thank you I was always told flushing gets it all out but drain it probably gets most of it. The fact that I only had 42,000 miles but it's 7 years old too I'm retired so I don't drive that much which is nice now consider j used to drive about 35,000 miles a year

I find the highlighted lines confusing…

Do you start with a higher quantity of diff fluid from the factory/axle-install, then later (having drained all the gear oil after requisite # of miles or post-submerging the diff) refill with a lesser quantity going forward?

Does the rear diff have the same more-initially, less-later fill instruction?

I have 3 quarts ready for the weekend so I’d like to get this sorted out.

TIA

So I guess you didn't flush it you just drained it and put more in there did you take the cover off or just drain it and put the oil in there

I had a few ounces remaining of my 3 quarts. I removed the covers because I didn't notice the drain plugs until too late :) I didn't flush, but wiped out the bottom of the housing.

I think that happened sometime in the late 21. My '21 (build date Jan 22) doesn't have a drain plug either. Now that I have drilled a hole on the front diff and kissed my warranty goodbye, I am tempted to drill another hole and make my own drain plug thingy lol.

EDIT: @jadmt - I was wrong. today crawling under the Jeep I discovered that my diff indeed has drain plugs. It only took me 3 years to find it lol

With the cover off, you can spray cleaner into the carrier. Any residue is washed out, making the fluid replacement more effective. It's likely overkill. But, depending on what you use to clean it, doesn't hurt anything.

I don't have any drainplugs.
I had to pull the covers to change the fluid so I went ahead and replaced them with Spicer covers...
