that manual is for U.K. Jeeps. That’s why it shows a 2.2 Diesel. The Manual pics I’m posting are US. No where in the US manual does it say use 75w-140 for the Rubicon Dana 44. Only for the M200/Dana 35 does it say use it. I’ve looked at all the US manuals from 18-21 and no of them say that. I’m not saying 75w-140 is good or bad. I’m just wanting to use the best fluid for long life, and I’m assuming what they put in the manual is that. They test vehicles with fluids and want you to use what’s going to save them warranty repairs. If 80w-150 was the best they would’ve put it in my manual. Maybe in the UK something is different.

I don’t think anyone is stupid. I want to use what’s best for my Jeep. I’ll put castor oil in the damn thing if it will help. Several posts are saying “if towing use 75w-140”, and I don’t know why. Plus people like you are pulling the wrong manual out of your butt. It even tells you what fuel to use in the U.K. On top of capacities for an engine we don’t have. You obviously think a Jeep Wrangler comes with a 2.2 Diesel engine now. Look at what you sent. It is a U.K. Owners manual. The manual for the Jeep Wrangler from the United States does NOT say on any page to use 75w-140 if towing. I will PayPal you $20 if you can show me where it does.

The thinner gear oil is for gas mileage, if anything. Higher viscosity fluid protects, if I towed more I wouldn't hesitate to use the 75W-140. It helps, it definitely does not harm.

Sounds right. Thank you for being nice in your response and not an ass about it. I’ve wondered if people with the service locker light are having that issue cause of how thin it is. I’m driving 1,000 miles to Moab and wondered if I might have the issue. That’s why I’m changing it before I leave. The technicians at my dealershiptold me you’re supposed to change the rear every 15,000 miles and the front every 30,000. That makes me think Jeep makes you do it to keep the metal out of fluid so the lockers don’t mess up. Cheap way for them to not have to warranty them and not say we screwed up with no way to fix it unless you replace the whole axle.

I think those sensors are just hit or miss. Probably made in China. I bought 2 of the Z-locker harnesses so I don't ever have to worry about it. I'd rather not give my Jeep to the dealer to swap out axles.

I have one in the glove box just in case. Sounds like it’s usually the rear that causes the problem. I’ll order another soon just in case. You’re probably right. Still a dumbass design. How can they design a vehicle where you can’t replace a simple PCB box with a plug? Probably a $10 part to make that costs thousands of it goes out. That’s some stupid engineering if ever I’ve seen.

You took the words right out of my mouth!! We relayed and showed evidence and solid advice to the member and he wants to argue. I'm on board with you.

Yeah, I kept mine in the console for awhile then decided to just plug them in. A couple well placed zip ties and they are done.

He showed evidence for a complete different country. I asked to show in our manual where it says that. Didn’t say that weight of oil is bad or good.

You might not realize it, but you also suggested that “long life” is 60k miles.

Don't remember saying that, and that’s not what I meant. I mean I hope she makes to 200,000+ miles. I hope everybody gets a long problem free life out of there vehicle. That’s what my daily has on it, and still going strong. Seriously, I’m not saying 75w-140 is good or bad. I honestly have no idea. I do know that the parts, service and owners manual do not say to use it on any page if you’re towing. At least the one for our vehicles. Obviously in Europe they feel it needs it if you’re towing. Why, I have no idea. For whatever reason in North America they don’t feel it’s necessary in a Rubicon Dana 44. I’m not calling anyone wrong, stupid, or anything. To call me stupid because I’m shown info from a whole different country is wrong. If our manual had said to use it, I would be using it. It’s your Jeep and your opinion. You can put whatever you want in your Jeep. Fact is 75w85 is recommended for front and rear diffs unless you have an M200.

I’ve struggled with this as well. When I did mine I used 75w-90, as my manual doesn’t indicate to use anything but 75w-85. I have the M200 and tow a small utility trailer from time to time. I might try 140 next time, which is going to be sooner than later as I submerged my differentials a couple times last weekend. Attached is a snippet from my manual on my 2018 Sport.

That’s interesting. They must’ve added the use 75w-140 on the M200 in 2019 an up. Btw, based off of certain manuals posted don’t forget to use a low ash oil in your 2.2 Diesel engine if you have one.

So heres what I went off for mine. This is straight from the dealer, easy enough to figure out what to use. I have 30/35 and used 75w-140 in the rear. Hope this can be of help.

Crap, I looked at that manual again that was sent to me. I’m using 87 octane in my Jeep. Am I supposed to use the (NAFTA) fuel selection of 87 Octane or the (Export) 91 RON?
