The roof rack is not a variable in my case.

I’ve seen many XR owners complain about disappointing MPG. They reports similar numbers to my Sahara on Mopar lift, 35s and 4.88s. Which makes sense.

Was your 21 JL on stock suspension and tires?
Pros of the eTorque:
- less wear on the starter
- no small aux battery to constantly replace
- smooth auto start/stop
- smoother shifting and acceleration

Cons of the eTorque:
- The 48V battery (and battery coolant lines) are on the underside of the Jeep. It is protected with a thin skid plate but is one more thing to be careful with when off-roading over large rocks.
- The long term reliability, maintenance and replacement cost of the 48V battery and generator are still unknown.
- not that you would want to add one, but Superchargers are not compatible with eTorque engines.

After owning both, I absolutely prefer the eTorque version.
I have 3.6 2021 JL, im also worried about the reliability of the motor generator and the 48V battery because it seems nobody complained or replaced them and we don't know how much it will cost !

Nobody has replaced them as they have an 8 year warranty being they are considered emissions equipment. You'll have to wait until 2029 to worry about it, but why not start now?

I don’t have an 8 year warranty on the e toruqe battery , this package is not available in my country we don’t get warranty on the battery

The good news is that the warranty on the 48V battery is 8 years/80,000 miles.

I have a 3.6 e-torque and always disable it.. Not because I don't like the system.. Its the other drivers and driving situations around me.

You know. The drivers that stop at a red light with about 30 feet between them and the car in front of them. Then they creep forward a few feet every few seconds leaving an increasing space in front of me that I have to close.. Stop, start creep stop. etc etc..

Then going home from work I have to get off a freeway exit with multiple stop signs.. During rush hour.. Stop start, stop start, stop start etc etc.. I could easily get 10-20 start stop cycles in this one spot alone although I think the system gives up after a few turns..

Even just parking - you know you stop, the engine shuts off, then you put it into reverse/park and it starts back up only for you to shut it off because - well you are parked! Why?

Although.. There are some cities with stop lights that seem to stay red for a really long time (Thousand Oaks/Anaheim I am looking at you).. I probably save a little gas with the engine off waiting the 5 minutes it seems to take for these lights to go green again..

So yeah.. It stays disabled on my Jeep most of the time..

The e-torque is relatively problem free. I personally have had no issues with mine while those without e torque have had aux battery issues.
if I were to trade in I would not hesitate to buy another e torque if offered again.

Same here…and the auto start is so much more seamless compared to the non E Torque.

Definitely, the start/stop is a non issue, so seamless in fact you don’t even realize it’s doing it unless you pay attention. If all vehicles hard this type of Start/stop I doubt we would even hear all the complaints.

You’re not disabling eTorque. Just the auto stop/start functionality. All the other eTorque functions are still operating.

I also have a 3.6 etorque in my 22 Rubi XR. I've had no trouble. Gas mileage is not great but better than my 2009 6 cylinder Commander. Oh, I didn't buy a Wrangler for the gas mileage - bought it despite the poor gas mileage.

Love it. I don't bother disabling the start/stop either. I left foot brake, so if I don't want it to shut down, I just touch the throttle.

I have had:

18 3.6 ESS
23 3.6 etorque
24 3.6 ESS

Of the three, the worst experience was the 23 etorque.
Jerky starts and stops, annoying regen forcing me to use gas pedal on downhills instead of coasting. Dangerous IMO jerking to a stop then jerking starts at stop lights. Dealer had it 90 days, no fix.

Of the three, the etorque got the worst MPG by 1 mpg less than the brand new 24. The etorque was a 2 door, the 18 and 24 are 4 doors.

Stelantis didnt stop making it because they had bad marketing, they stopped making it because it failed at what they wanted, many mpg improvement over non etorque which they did not get.
