I have had both versions of the 3.6L JL and prefer the eTorque. The eTorque has better acceleration, smoother shifting, seamless auto start/stop, and doesn't require tearing the fender off every 18 months to replace the aux battery like my original 3.6L. It is yet to be seen how long the 48V battery and the belt driven generator last long-term, but so far so good. :like:

As many other hear have stated, rarely if any have I seen a complaint/concern about the e-Torque system. Ram trucks had it before Jeep. I only have 34K on my 2021 JLUR 3.6 e-Torque and so far, no issues with the system or complaints. Also, as mentioned 2021 seems to be a better if not best model year for the JL Wrangler. Seem to have the least complaints/concerns on this model year. You are out of the 8/80 warranty on the system so buying an extended warranty, preferred MOPAR backed, would be advisable. Hopefully a company will eventually make an e-Torque delete option. Eventually the systems will have failures.

I concur the problems are rare. It works fine. There may be some transmission band wear and timing chain stretch benefits with the rpm matching assist for downshift. There may be a slight, brief push off the line. If mine goes out, that’s when I’d prefer to delete it if it made financial sense to lessen complexity and potential failure points. Without eTorque, you could possibly tune the engine to get a little more low end back.

For the standard ESS, where it has an auxiliary battery, is it expensive and troublesome to delete the aux battery? Perhaps I’ve not paid close enough attention to the topic?

I’m also looking at this as a Dad with a daughter who we bought a 17 JK for. It’s a solid year to own. A little simpler for her and her financial ability. So far, she’s had it almost 6 years although she’s only gone 60k miles since we bought it with 8k. I just wanted to get her past college and starting a career before repair expenses started becoming more of a concern. She doesn’t plan to ever sell it. We’ve made some memories off-roading together in it. So my thinking is simpler is better for her.

'21 E-torque here - love it. I don't even bother turning off the stop/start because it's so smooth.

23 Rubicon XR, etorque and absolutely love it. Regenerative braking for longer lasting brakes, seamless start stop, extra torque at takeoff, easier on transmission when rpm matching. On top of my Maxcare 7yr/125k, the system comes with an 8yr/80k warranty.

Although, after warranty runs out I’m looking for a delete. No mechanic other than dealerships can work on these and that means incompetence and rip off expensive.

New here. Bought a 2021 wrangler unlimited sport s 80th edition 3.6L V6 24v vvt e torque yesterday for my daughters sweet 16. Wrangler is her dream vehicle.

had my mechanic look it over. He is not familiar with the e torque and he actually advised against it and said you should take it back and find a plain V6. Otherwise the vehicle is mint per se.

hoping to hear some feedback from this forum on thoughts on e torque MGU etc. anything I need to worry about or cost wise? He mentioned it’s hard to find someone to repair if MGU goes bad and is very expensive. Thoughts? I have 14 days to return and can continue shopping if need be.

82k miles
if it is driving fine, will will last as good as anything.

My 23 was a lemon mostly because of driving issues with the etorque.
My 21 Ram was fine with it.
Many here say it works fine.

2021 42k miles, my start/stop stopped working last year which I took for the 12v getting weak.
Replaced it and now everything is back to normal.
Love my Etorque.

What does delete mean?

We have a 2022 Sahara with Etorque. No problems at all and so so smooth.
