Grew up driving Manual, New to wrangler and off-roading…LOVING IT
Took my 2022 JL 4-door Rubicon off-roading last week, going up a couple of Sandy hills, after some little time on 4low got a message of clutch overheating and to release the clutch. Attached a picture from the hi
Trying to figure out if it’s car issue and has to do with the recall from 2021 or it is operator error? Does pressing the gas while releasing the clutch on 4low cause the clutch to over heat ?

Operator error. With the Rubicon's 4:1 transfer case in low range you have an incredibly low crawl ratio. You shouldn't be pressing the clutch except briefly to shift gears. If for whatever reason you ride the clutch and overheat it, that message appears.

I've gotten it before on my '21 JLUR, it was during a 15 point turn where we were down a trail that got too deep water/mud wise and had to turn around. I let it cool, and started back up, no issue. The warning is in there after the recall to warn you before doing damage as far as I understand it.

You’re feathering the clutch going up that hill? Like noted above, you shouldn’t have to.

I’m not saying you’re doing this, but some people have a bad habit of keeping their foot on the clutch pedal between shifts.

Funny back before the 4:1 transfer case......Feathering your TJ going up rock ledges was the norm. It would take alot to get that clutch hot...........The JL clutch is a negative experience in comparison.

with the 4:1 t/c ratio, no feathering is needed. I literally idle up boulders and rock shelves in 4low and 1st gear with a hint of gas pw2edal.

based on pic, a similar hill grade I did taken in 3rd gear 4- low not feathering the clutch

My TJ neither . But on my manual JL to get up a sandy steep hill that needed speed i would have to use 3 low and to prevent stalling had to rev engine and slip clutch . Needles to say i no longer have the JL .

I’m not to thrilled with the JLs abilities in steep sand either. I also have a 6speed.

I switched out the clutch to a CFII with the heavier inertia flywheel and it was transformative for low end torque situations.

granted not cheap. Jeep should have it setup like this from the factory

Same here. I found the Offroad+ button to help in these situations.
