Bubbles in Paint at Door Hinges

Mine has been at the body shop for 10 days so far. The process was easy, except for timing it with being able to get a loaner and the body shop having space. My warranty expired mid March but I made sure it was documented prior to the expiration.

Is there a long term solution or will it be a reoccurring issue? Mine is only 2 years old and dealing with it. So they fix it, but then just expect it to come back..I’m shocked there isn’t at least a TSB on it.

Supposedly the fix is to include a new zinc shim as a sacrificial anode, and also to paint the hinges and the door separately. This should help prevent both galvanic corrosion and poultice corrosion. Time will tell if it actually works

From what I hear, if it’s present on a door that door now gets replaced. The corrosion warranty is five years, but can that get extended? I don’t think the mopar max care plan includes it.

I called Jeep Cares and started a claim and got a number assigned. I brought that number to the dealer and they took pictures and it was approved within a few days. It was in the shop within 3 weeks and then it took about three weeks to complete as they had to order 3 doors and all the hinges. If only all warranty claims were this smooth.

Yes, and then gave my dealer the claim number. Seemed to move things along.

I have an appointment next week to have paint problems checked out. The hood hinge on the passenger side is bubbling. The doors each have problems at the edge of the door, no problem on or near the door hinges. The areas are relatively small at this point, don’t expect it to stay that way.

I think I know the answer, but are these zinc shims available for purchase? I don't have paint bubbles (yet), but it would be nice to install these and prevent the corrosion before it begins.

The hinges aren't expensive. I looked up the part numbers in the TSB in case they don't cover mine (although mine is only 1.5 years old and 40,000KM in Canada) I'd buy the set and take the shims out, then you have spare hinges later in case... whatever happens lol

Thanks. I don't think we have Jeep Cares in Canada really. The dealer is submitting the request now, they figured a week to hear back. So I figure this time next week if I don't hear back, I'll start the corporate e-mail bomb schedule... :P

Dropped mine off on 03/31 for inspection, was told body shop pics and estimate would bet sent to Jeep ASAP and then schedule with body shop for repair. It’s now almost 3 weeks later and I’m no closer to a resolution than I was on day one. Dealer hasn’t contacted me once. I have to call them (3 so far. 4 if you count the time I called and nobody answered). Every time it’s “I’ll see if I can find out what’s going on and call you back”, only nobody ever calls back.

24 hours. Jeep Cares was not involved.
