I just returned from the dealership I purchased from (about an hour away). My local dealership doesn't have a body shop. Along with a oil change/rotate tires and issues with the start stop, I also have an area on my hood hinge that is starting to rust a little bit, and the other hood hinge and under the top tailgate hinge have paint missing with clear coat on top. I see a nice line of primer.
The advisor was pretty cool and is going to go take photos and submit them. He told me they started using the gaskets this year, and they would have to repaint the whole hood. I'll keep you posted on what happens.

One thing I did suggest to them. Instead of going through all the hassle of repainting the whole tailgate for the missing paint below the hinge, they could just put the Mopar tailgate reinforcement kit on there and cover it up perfectly. He said it wasn't a bad idea. Would probably be cheaper and easier. I'll see how that goes, not expecting it to be the solution, but thought it would be a good compromise.

I had all 4 doors, the hood and each hinge completely re-sprayed by the local dealer about a year ago. They painted both of the surfaces where the hinges mounts. The corrosion is back on 2 hinges and one door already.

I’d lose my mind. I’m also going to refuse having the body shop “ spot repair “ the issue. I’ll trade this thing in before I go through a lot of hassle.

As I previously mentioned, unless the two metals are completely isolated this issue will continue. Even using the powder coat or other methods will be temporary because the fasteners ultimately make the connection between the two dissimilar metals. Even woke engineers should understand this stuff, it's not that complicated. Without isolation, it corrosion WILL return. Now, besides my doors, I see it starting on my hood hinges . All this, after I ordered a new HEMI and it's giving me second thoughts.

I have a 2022 and it appears they have put something in between the hinges and the door on the 2022. Here is a pic of my door and hinges and you can clearly see there is some kind of gasket now that was not there on my 2018

Thank you for that! This has been eating at me for days, to the point that I no longer wanted a new vehicle if rust and corrosion was built in. Appears you may have found the "fix".

Internesting, mine is getting new hinges and a hood right now. Wondering if the new hinges will come with any type of material or gasket. Hope to find out soon.

I would give them a call to see, prior to them putting it back together. You could easily make gaskets from something such as PE (clear milk carton) material for them prior to reassembly.

Hinge on my '21
Resized_20220501_210942.jpeg
I can't find my 2018 pics but it did not have that gap and gasket like my 22 - there was no gap just appeared completely painted between door and hinge - I am sure someone can show a 2018 jeep to compare the difference. Didn't realize they did it on the 2021 as well - I am not sure it is all 2021 because I saw someone with the bubbling corrosion on a 2021 and it didn't appear they had the separation and gasket.

I believe what you might be seeing there NewGuy, is the unpainted joint created when the thing is painted after the hinge is attached. Mine has the same thing.

Hard to see it in black but in other photos I have have seen, this joint is completely covered in paint. So either there is some kind of gasket or the paint coverage varies from build to build.

Enlarge the photo and you will see a line between the body and the hinge which is light grey in color. That is actually the unpainted area due to them being painted after installation. Sorry for the quality, my property is covered in green so it reflects off everything.

The hinges is one aspect and I understand the reaction between two opposing metals. The issue is this is happening to many on door and hood edges. This is clearly a defect on paint prep at the factory.

Picked up my 2021 Willys Sport in October of 21.It doesn't have anything between the hinges and the doors or hood.I can clearly see under spray around some of the hinges.I would feel better if it had the gasket ,but what about the corrosion at the edges of the hood and doors? This is a REAL problem requiring substantial manufacturing process changes.
