Bubbles in Paint at Door Hinges

Warranty does cover it. I had to wait a little while but I took my 2018 with 25k in and they took pictures etc.
Waited about a month and they scheduled me at a body shop and said about two weeks, no loaner car. Good thing my parents have an extra truck.
We’ll see how good the work turns out. I’m a little nervous. I have almost every hinge and the hood with bubbling.

I went today and picked up my 19' JLUR from the dealer after them having it for 2 weeks to fix the bubbling paint issues. I was out of town most of this week, so they had extra time. It turned out really well, but they missed one hinge! They must not have glasses or quality checks. So not they may just order a hinge and replace it versus keeping my Jeep again.

Just FYI...I don't have paint bubbling around hinges yet. I unbolted hinges(door/hood) Primed with aluminum primer, painted back of hinge and door. I made a gasket with 14 mil 3M paint protector film and bolted back together. Not sure how this will work, but it's better than nothing.

Nice proactive approach but the skeptic in me has me wondering if the dealer/mfg will use this as a reason to decline repairing under warranty if you do end up with corrosion in the future.

Someone please create a weather proof gasket so there is no owner 'paint work' which Stellantis will use to deny the inevitable.

I agree they may decline warranty work, but if they are just sanding and painting the hinges and doors without taking the hinges apart, like they state in their TSB, I don't want them to do that anyway. If it's corroded under the hinges and they don't seal it with paint/gasket, I think it will keep happening. There are hundreds of opinions on why this is happening in different forums. I have not seen any official report from Jeep on why this is happening. I put some anti seize/corrosion lube on the bolts also.

I'll keep an eye on everything around the hinges and post comments in the future if any corrosion starts.

I don’t have a Wrangler to test this with but I’m thinking of applying this tape between the hinge and door whenever that day comes. Comes in widths up to 6”.

I've brought it into the dealer(Elgin CDJR) about 8 months ago and they have been stringing me along this whole time and haven't submitted the claim yet, saying that it takes a while to submit the claim. I have to return the car in 3 months since it's a lease. If they don't end up fixing this by that time and I return the car, will I be charged for all of this? All of the hinges basically look like the picture I attached. It's also happening on the edges of the hood and the doors.

My mileage is way under. They said I could drive it 48k and I'm only at 26k currently, with 3 more months to go.

I just got back from Roesch in Bensenville. They took the pics and I'm supposed to hear back from them soon as to when I should expect to bring in for repair. You might want to drive east a little.

Hey thanks for the heads up. Can you keep me updated on your case? Elgin CDJR told me the same thing and they never called me back. I drove there and called them multiple times and they just keep saying that it's a complicated claim and that it takes time to fill out the forms. I ask them what is the hold up and they never go into detail about it and just say that it will take time. So frustrating. Please let me know if you are able to move forward with Roesch.

I just pulled all my hinges off my 2021 Sting Grey and they're currently being LineX'd to protect them from rock chips. There are no gaskets, nor will I put one. Just another thing to hold water.
The hinges on door aren't steel, they're also aluminum. The part attached to jeep is steel as far as I can tell. I did the same thing to my JK but I sandblasted them and bedlined myself. Held up for a solid 4 years before I sold her. This time I'm doing body coloured LineX.

The reason they bubble is because there is most likely a small hole that allows condensation/air to get in which starts aluminium corrosion. If they simply painted the doors and hinges separately, this wouldn't be a problem at all.

I will say though, on the JK, there was some sort of "stuff" in between the hinge and the door. Almost like a creme? There is no such thing on the JL.

?? At this point, I would remind them that you've been inquiring for months now, and there's only three months left on the lease. If they don't take care of it now, they'll be doing it afterwards. They'll never be able to resell it in it's current condition, and you'll be driving away without a care since it's a lease.

What I'm wondering is if I would really drive away without a care or if I would be responsible for it if I turn it in as it is.
