Painting it or bondo is NOT a fix. Its from the inside outThis is actually what happened with me. I had to wait for a couple of months because of the backlogs and than it took a month to get my Jeep through the shop. Just be aware that it will be their for a bit.
Shitty that this is happening too though.
Yup that sounds perfect. This is what it looks like under the hinge. I just used fluid film on all the bare metal and on the bolts, and I had my hinges powder coated black. So far so good but my jeeps only about 6 months old.
I touch up with fluid film using a q tip around the hinges after every time I wash it.

@Snoopi : If I were you I’d take all the hinges off, sand away all the corrosion, obtain matching body color spray paint from automotivetouchup.com, and try what @AMKRubicon610 did above.Painting it or bondo is NOT a fix. Its from the inside out
So last Thursday I brought my 19 Wrangler to another dealer after the dealer I bought from refused to make a claim because of paint bubbles. I heard back today that Jeep will cover the doors but not the hinges. I have over 50K miles so the original warranty does not cover it. I can live with having to buy hinges. I am more pissed that the dealer I purchased from refused to submit a claim. The dealer that is doing the work said they put a compound between the hinges and the door then repaint everything.I just came back from another dealer and they had no problem submitting a claim. I am just amazed that the dealer I bought it from would not even make a claim. Now I will have to wait to see if Jeep will cover it.
everyone we deserve our jeeps to be 100%! File a recall complaint at NHTSa.gov. I paid way too much and dont want my lived ones flying out-of my jeep after the bondo paint job is done!I have a 2018 Wrangler with corrosion issues at all 8 door hinges and also a random spot at a lower portion of a door. Note that the corrosion is happening on both the hinges and the door panels. Called my dealership and my Wrangler is currently in the dealership paint shop getting these issues fixed -- covered by warranty because there is 5 year/100,000 on outer panel corrosion. The dealership provided me with a no-cost loaner and to this point I am satisfied. My main concern is whether their fix will cure the issue "for life" which my CSR assures me will be the case, although when I asked what will happen if this corrosion occurs again after warranty coverage is outdated, he replied, "this will likely NOT be covered." Ongoing saga -- I will check back in when my Jeep is returned to me.
Nope its not 5 year & i only have 14000@Snoopi : If I were you I’d take all the hinges off, sand away all the corrosion, obtain matching body color spray paint from automotivetouchup.com, and try what @AMKRubicon610 did above.
Once I get my Jeep I’ll be removing the hinges and applying anaerobic gasket maker to see if that will ward off the corrosion.
If I’m not mistaken your Jeep’s body would be out of warranty by now?
That’s interesting…I didn’t realize we can submit complaints for a recall. I don’t even have the Jeep yet, but will be submitting my complaint. ?everyone we deserve our jeeps to be 100%! Recall at nhtsa.gov. Lets get our voices heard we are Jeep customers and love our rides! Damn jeep do the right thing! There is no reason for the paint to be bubbling up a second time AFTER a factory repaint for the same issue. It's getting old....
I thought about doing similar with proseal. Pulling the hinges and putting it back on wet before bolting them back on… Also probably look pretty cool to powder coat them black.Once I get my Jeep I’ll be removing the hinges and applying anaerobic gasket maker to see if that will ward off the corrosion.p
I tend to believe this statement, does anyone have pictures of the view were the bolts attaches from inside the doors ?… This is from the inside out ….
Tell them the doors may eventually fall off… I know nothing the NHTSA process, just throwing absolute worse case scenario.
This looks like a much more suitable application to prevent corrosion than the gasket maker I had previously mentioned. Thanks for posting!I thought about doing similar with proseal.
