You only spent $40,000….you’re getting by cheap! Candidly there is nothing we can do about this matter except avoiding the brand in the future…. Getting mad at a dealer won’t do any good….
Exactly, it is NOT the dealers fault. I can't believe there is not a class-action against FCA yet.

They *know* it's an issue and yet they (apparently) aren't doing anything proactively to fix it.

They need to redesign to prevent it from happening. But for us who already have the defective design, they should pay for the repairs and warrant it for an extended period of time.

And yes, 40K is pretty low, virtually all the Jeeps I've looked at when the dealers actually had stock were $56K average. Think about the guys spending upwards of 80K. Ouch.

I’d Rather Talk Jeep’s!
I think I’ll be spraying a few more coats of clear around and on all the hinges when I receive my new JLUR to help ward off rust. My thoughts are that Jeep paints the hinges separately from the body and when they install the hinges it damages the body paint thereby letting water to seep in. Spraying a few coats of clear on the area and it should seal it up nicely before any damage occurs.

I don’t think that will look very good. And they paint everything at the same time. The hinges go on, then they paint. The issue is that there’s bare metal under the hinges, accompanied by dissimilar metals (steel bolt in aluminum hinge/body panels). Stuff gets in between and speeds up galvanic corrosion.
Spraying clear isn’t going to match OEM and it won’t solve the issue that lies underneath the hinges. You gotta treat the bare metal and the steel bolts

Glad you mentioned this, thanks!

So what you’re saying is that I should remove the hinges and apply an anaerobic gasket maker to the hinge mating surface and maybe dab the screws with a silicone sealant prior to reinstallation? Or maybe find anodized bolts to replace the steel bolts?

Back on 6/28 I took my Jeep into dealer #1 so that the paint warranty claim could be filed. I have not heard anything back yet on if they have submitted the claim to Chrysler. I have sent 4 emails asking for an update with no reply.

On Friday 8/13, I took my Jeep to dealer #2 to try the same process somewhere else. They were extremely helpful and talked me through the process. Hoping that I get a better result here!

Yup that sounds perfect. This is what it looks like under the hinge. I just used fluid film on all the bare metal and on the bolts, and I had my hinges powder coated black. So far so good but my jeeps only about 6 months old.

I touch up with fluid film using a q tip around the hinges after every time I wash it.

I haven't gone through the whole thread, but read the last few pages. Has anyone gotten a remedy that will prevent this from happening after it's fixed by a dealer?

Also, any response by @JeepCares? This is a known issue and has been going on for years. Can't believe there's not a remedy. They'd just prefer to kept repainting parts?? I'm FRUSTRATED!!!! Paid $55,000 for a 2020. It has 12,000 miles and it has corrosion. Crazy!

It specifically says defects do to factory perpetration. They did not correctly prepare the metal near the hinges and that is why the it is corroding and the paint is bubbling up.

Furthermore, I would not be asking them to repair the metal. Id be asking them to repair the paint. Two different things. The paint is not damaged due to use or road chips. It is damaged due to poor factory preparation.
If the prep isn't redone properly, new paint will bubble as well.

Paint doesn't inherently bubble, it's when it no longer sticks to the underlying surface due to corrosion or for other similar reasons.

For example, if paint peels from a house due to poor surface prep, just repainting it will result in the new paint peeling off as well.

The question is who defines "correctly prepares" as far as the surface goes; Jeep may have a different definition of that than you, and if they chose that's where litigation would occur.

They really need to come out with a clear(er?) definition of that. It's being left up to the dealers, which have a wildly varying set of standards, some of which attempt to deny warranty as a first move. This is out of hand.

I have a 2018 Wrangler with corrosion issues at all 8 door hinges and also a random spot at a lower portion of a door. Note that the corrosion is happening on both the hinges and the door panels. Called my dealership and my Wrangler is currently in the dealership paint shop getting these issues fixed -- covered by warranty because there is 5 year/100,000 on outer panel corrosion. The dealership provided me with a no-cost loaner and to this point I am satisfied. My main concern is whether their fix will cure the issue "for life" which my CSR assures me will be the case, although when I asked what will happen if this corrosion occurs again after warranty coverage is outdated, he replied, "this will likely NOT be covered." Ongoing saga -- I will check back in when my Jeep is returned to me.
Oh my god. All of my door hi ges on my Sahara are corroded and door panels! This is from the inside out so a bondo paint job WillNot fix the problem! I am pissed
