dude itll come back. it doesnt even matter how well they prep it or the paint they use or primer or clear or anything. itll just come back. it might not be for months, but eventually it will. its the type of metal they used in the manufacturing process and unless they replace the parts with a different metallurgy then this problem will persist. some people are lucky on here and havent had the bubbles whatsoever from the factory for years, even with their JK's, but its a massive gamble to keep the car and risk it bubbling again after they paint it once. imagine paying $50k for your fucking brand new car and the paint starts flaking off after 9 months. and then they paint it. and then it starts flaking off after 8 months again. no repeat this process for 5 years until they dont cover it anymore and now youre left with car with dogshit resale because the paint is fucked because guess what, its flaking again.

oh yeah and when you go to sell it or trade it in, every single time you had it painted and had body work done to it (which they have to do technically to fix the fucking rotted out panels on the bottom of the doors), itll show up on your vehicle history and drop the value. this is why theres a lawsuit against these fucking idiots. we get penalized for something we didnt even do, nor have any control over whatsoever.

the fact that the warranty for this is only 5 years is absolutely fucking ridiculous. the fact there was never an official apology or buy-back program for this is fucking abhorrent. no official "fix", just a band-aid. even the '23 model owners are having bubbles in their shit. theyve known about this since the JK. where the fuck is the accountability?

I pick my '19 JLUR from the dealer on Monday. This is the second time it's been in for warranty work for corrosion. My 5 years expires next month so I'm on my own after this. Thinking when it comes back I will sand the entire thing down and let it rust into a fine Italian Fiat Patina.

Having paint work done shows up on a vehicle history report?
I thought there has to be an accident report filed for it to appear on a Carfax report?

if you do it outside network (which youre not, youre going through a warranty repair service), it wont show up on the carfax or VIN report. the shitty thing about it is if an appraiser notices the re-paint or body work, or investigates through the VIN of why it was randomly re-painted and had body work done without an accident or insurance claim filed. its just a fucked up situation that none of us should ever have to go through. best fucking beleive if you took your shit to get appraised after you got it repainted, and they notice a blemish or wave in the metal, youre absolutley 1000000% not going to get the full resale value that you are entitled to. this is why theres a lawsuit, and many other reasons. it is for fucking sure going to affect thousands of owners' trade in or resale values. theres no way to avoid it.

Well, now it’s my turn.
2019 JLRU, bubbling at the front hood edge, and several of the door hinges.
Can someone attach the link to the TSB. Never mind, found it.

Most every car dealer also has a paint thickness meter and I can guarantee the redo won't match the factory thickness, so they will know.

The question is whether this paint issue will already be "baked into" prices offered for used JLs given how common it is.

Hi Bill,

Please send us a private message with your VIN if you schedule an appointment with the dealership. We would be happy to provide extra support.

Took the Jeep into the Dealership today. Service writer said he was not aware of this problem, but after looking at my JL, he agreed I have a paint issue on my hood, doors and several hinges. Made an appointment for this Friday.

I was told the same thing by a service advisor and almost immediate talked to someone else saying they were booked for the same issues. lol

It's aluminum. It will turn a greenish white powder.

Yeah, it's really difficult to get a hand painted job as thin as the factory robots.

Well this bubble problem has occurred on my 2019 Wrangler, again.
I had both doors done previously due to this problem and was told it would not return.

This time I discovered it is wider than before, last time just the doors, this time I have both doors, hood, and the front windshield frame, at least that is what I have found so far.

I have already spoken with a dealer and we are working on the details of getting it serviced under the warranty. I was told my warranty on this issue will expire on this issue at the end of next year.

Would anyone have any ideas on how to put this specific issue behind me?
Might powder coating the effected sections be a better choice than painting?

Well after more than a year of fighting with my dealership, my paint bubbles have been repaired. I had to open a case with Jeep customer service (which in itself took a bit to get to that point), but I gotta say that once my case manager was on it, things finally moved along. I appreciate what they did and there's no question in my mind that I wouldn't have gotten that far without them.

My local dealer, on the other hand, was absolutely awful to work with. They were deceptive, stalling, misleading, and non responsive. Even the case manager had trouble getting them to respond at certain points. I bought it new and this was a clear cut case of just needing to get the warranty service I was entitled to get, but it was REALLY difficult. And as an indication of how screwed up things are at that dealership, they went through four service managers in about six months. One lasted exactly one day and walked out, as I heard from a reliable source. I've owned a fair number of new cars in my lifetime across multiple brands, and I've never, ever had an experience as poor as this one. Not even close. You might wonder why I didn't go to a different dealer. I did. Most had long lists of these paint bubble repairs, some as long as a two year wait. A few I talked to wouldn't even accept mine as a warranty case because I didn't buy it from them - they told me that outright, even though I thought you could bring your vehicle to any dealer for warranty work.

Once I got approval for the work, I took it to a reputable body shop and the cost to repair four doors, tailgate, and hood was $8,100. Yes, that's eight grand.

I got it back from the body shop a week and a half ago, and I'm trading it next week for a non Stellantis product, deal is already done. This is my third Wrangler. I owned one of the first JKUs for five years, then another JK for a seven years. Both were rock solid and reliable. My 2020 JLU that I'm trading will be my last Jeep product ever. There are other nit-picky quality control issues with this one beyond the paint - things breaking, rattles, etc. I typically keep my vehicles for a while but it feels like a bad idea to keep this one. Maybe it's just a bad example - it came off the line during the pandemic. Maybe that has something to do with it.

I really hope you guys have a better experience than I did.
