All you people that insist a fuse is necessary for a winch don’t forget to add a fuse to your starter cable as it may see similar currents.
No one said necessary just smart…

Fuse? No fuse? How about we stick to what's important. We are four pages into this thread and no one has written "wench" yet. WTF? Did everyone suddenly start taking their meds???

I’m surprised a “Stegodon” branded wench didn’t elicit any responses either.

Oh boy, another debate on proper winch power supply.
Hey guys, I been thinking about putting a catch can on my driveshaft. Thoughts?

Starters usually have "fusable links" Sections of wire designed to melt away and break the connection on overload. At least the used to. I haven't touched a starter in 20 years LOL

I've never run a fuse on a winch either. I've always run a cutoff switch of some kind, but that's in case I get hit or hit something in the front. I don't want to pinch a wire and burn something up. I run the cutoff switch up by the battery.
To each their own.

Vast majority don’t make it correct or safe but, good luck 😎
Adding fuse protection for wires that I properly routed, secured, protected from heat or sharp edges is like using condoms with my wife, I could but there's no point and it over complicates the experience...
I did appreciate your post after the one I quoted regarding being smart considering the grammar of the post I quoted but maybe that's just me. Now if we are talking a front end collision hard enough to smash the steel bumper and winch enough to short the wiring we are also talking airbags and frame damage, possibly the battery dislodging from the plastic mount so again the winch wiring is the least of my concerns.

I don't think Ram puts a fuse on the Power Wagon winch, Anybody know if they do on the rubicon with winch option?............
