Anyone who has ever worked in law enforcement knows of all the many horrors seen that can never be unseen. Automobile accidents are never pretty but being the first responding officer to the scene of a fatal accident is worse. My first fatal traffic scene as a rookie out of the academy is forever burned in my mind. It never gets better with time. If there is one takeaway to anyone reading this, please slow down, be attentive and understand that you are not invincible and the fancy tech in your vehicle does not excuse you to ever be any less attentive. Thank you.
So true when I was young and dumb in my 20’s I would always think highway cops were sc**bags because they’d rarely ever let you out of a ticket. What opened my eyes was a friend who said to me “you don’t know what they see every day. Imagine what it’s like to see a child killed or a person decapitated?”
He said “you’d write tickets too if you saw all that !” Guess what....he’s right.

I suspect that you are referring to this statement: "And on occasion I have still started to change lanes before without fully checking and been surprised to find a vehicle there. "

I took that as Chocolate Thunder admitting that he occasionally is inattentive - not that he uses the nanny in lieu of visually checking. He is simply stating that he is human.

The only drivers using technology to warn them in lieu of their eyes are submariners.
You’re wrong Rick. I’m stating that I’m probably the only person on this forum who has ever not checked well enough and initiated a lane change only to find someone there. Yep. Just me. :giggle:

That’s why I got the advanced safety package - so I don’t ever have to look over there and can have the vehicle do all the work. ;)

If I remember well Yul Brynner took that coffin all the way up to the cemetery without any blind spot detection system when he was watching all those guns aimed at him atop the rooftops

WRONG!!!! He had Steve McQueen. Love that movie, just watched it. Again.

I've had my 2019 Wrangler for 9 months. I love it. I wanted blind spot detection. In other cars the mirror lights up whenever something is in my blind spot. If I swerve towards it the car beeps. That's how I imagined this.

I can have a car in the lane next to me and there is nothing that happens with the mirror. If I swerve towards a car I will pretty much hit it before it beeps if it beeps.

However, there's a bridge by my house that has a post about 20 feet from the road but is on a curve in the road and it sets off the blind spot monitor every day.

Is there something wrong? Is there a way to configure this to work? Am I expecting too much. I'd just love a light when something is in my blind spot. Especially because the mirrors don't go wide enough to eliminate the blind spot.
I ordered my 2018 Jeep Wrangler with this options. At that time
it was about $589, I believe the price has almost doubled. I had
a 2015 Acura MDX with BSW, which can't compare to the one in
my Wrangler. If a vehicle is not in your blind spot it will not be displayed
in the mirror since you can see the vehicle in your adjacent lane. AS for
the cross traffic alert, I believe it's one of the best and has never failed
once to detect cars or predestines when backing up. If FCA did anything
right, this was it.

Can confirm - Blind spot on the JL is worthless. Have 2 Grand Cherokees and they work great. I believe it is because of the placement of the sensors - on the JL it is closer to the from of the of the quarter panels and the GC (WK2) their are also on the rear bumpers, which I assume allows it to trigger much quicker and functionally works well

Jason, maybe you should have yours checked. Mine work perfectly.

Or go old school and turn your head. We rely too much on the nannies and lose a lot of basic driving skills.
Technology assistance has its merits, but visual confirmation of your surroundings will always keep you out of trouble.
thats one reason why i got a base model. the other reason too much technology can lead to problems and issues which result paying out money to fix em.

Mine works just as well as my old Grand Cherokee (WK2) as far as I can tell. You may want to have Jeep take a look at it.

Never had BSM on any of my vehicles other than rentals. Can't complain about the system on the JL. It works... sometimes too well where a vehicle two lanes over may be detected or more commonly it'll sense the vehicle to the left during a two lane left-hand turn. I've adapted to the system if its flawed, and adjusted mirrors further out to reduce blindspots (I can barely see the corners on the cars).

Regardless, I still try to pass any cars before switching lanes. And of course, always check visually before making the lane change.

My 2019 works fine, little orange light in both side mirror light up.
Only when you use the turn signal though, correct? I drove a 2019 Charger R/T for a week in CA recently and thats how it worked - seemed to work well & I'm sure the system is the same as the Jeeps.

It's a blind spot detector. A vehicle just to the side of you is not your blind spot.

I have mine set to make a bumper tearing thru a fender noise if I change lanes when someone's in my blind spot. Depending on the size of the other vehicle my rear view mirror may also alert me.

Yours is defective. Take it in.

Should light up and beep (assuming you have beep turned on) when something is there. Don’t have to turn into it to beep. But it’s never failed to pick up a car ir motorcycle in my blind spot so defective. Hope they get it fixed speedy.
