It usually takes 15min to an hour to get disabled. Anything close like trees or cliffs can do it. Driving across dry lake bed can as well. I think anything that doesn't look like a normal road behavior gets the software to give up.

Mine just stays on till I turn off and on the car. And since my area does not really have off-road stuff. There are no cliffs, no dry lake bed I am crossing, and that area it happens at there are not trees. Just normal pavement roads. I live in a flat area. Near space x’s starbase. The general area is flat with almost no trees near the roads. Since it was mainly farm lands.
