Drove to the nearest CAT scale, 100 miles round trip....
The results are....with full tank of gas....without me inside:
Front: 3030 Lbs.
Rear: 2980 Lbs.
Full on: 6060 Lbs.
Sounds more reasonable than 7100 Lbs.
Sounds much more correct for sure. So 900 pounds of weight gain roughly.

Dayum. So that rockery is due for a visit from the Weights and Measures folks. They're overcharging by about 13% (assuming you weigh about 200lbs)

Not to hijack the thread, but what happened such that charges were brought following a motor vehicle accident?
If you don’t live in a “no fault” state then yeah, you can be charged. The ubiquitous “too fast for conditions” is applied a lot when a vehicle rear ends another…. By the by, that is one Seriously heavy Jeep?

I though the same thing....however....they weigh before loading and then weigh after the loading....so it's the difference you're paying for.....

Sure, but the difference is probably off by 13% too, assuming the scale reads zero when empty.

I still don’t think it matters as long as they weigh the dump truck empty before they load it and then again after they load it....it's the difference...?

I think you need to apologize to your 392…. might have given it a complex. Nobody likes to be told they are too heavy. Admit you were wrong, bring a nice bouquet of shocks or something.

If the scale's just improperly "zeroed out" then I agree with you. But in that case, the empty scale would show 900, and you'd see that before you drove onto it.

But if it reads zero unloaded, then it's calibrated wrong and even the difference will be off proportionally.

Let's take a hypothetical scale at "Slick Sammy's" that reads off proportionally by 10%.

Suppose you throw a trailer that weighs EXACTLY 1000lbs on that scale. What does it read now?

An accurate scale would show 1000.
Slick Sammy's scale might read 1100.

Now throw EXACTLY 500lbs of rock in that trailer. Now what does it read?

An accurate scale would now show 1500.
Slick Sammy's scale will now read 1650.

Now, take the difference.
On the accurate scale: 1500 - 1000 = 500.

On Slick Sammy's scale: 1650 - 1100 = 550 - and you pay for 50lbs of rock you never received.

This lines up with my weight and we have similar builds. I added the Teraflex Big Brake kit to help stop this beast and could not be happier with the results.

I’m confused…I just wish that was new. My door sticker says 6100 pounds. Isn’t that what my 392 weighs? Why are some so much less?

GVWR is the weight limit determined by the manufacturer.
Curb weight would be what the vehicle weighs without passengers or cargo.
Not sure if curb weight includes full fuel load.

if you don't want to pay for a cat scale/ or its too far. I have used weigh stations when they are closed. the scale itself is usually still on. Pull up the front axle and get the number, then pull all the way on and get the total number. Subtract the front weight from the total weight to get your axle weight for front and back. Just an idea.

I’ll be interested to see what mine scales after the axle swap/40s is complete. Definitely gonna get a number because I’m gonna be trailer shopping. Driving 2200+ miles one way to Moab next year on 40s with a 200-250 mile range doesn’t sound that fun ?
