I just tested my 2.0 JLR, and rolling at 5 MPH is 2nd gear. The transmission has to downshift, then get past the boost threshold before anything really starts to happen.
That’s what I wondered, 2nd gear. That or tire spin.

surprised about the 30-50 and 50-70 times. with all that extra torque, i figured the 2.0t would be quicker there. my 3.6 feels alot quicker then i expected a jeep to feel regardless. i wonder if all the 2.0 feels so much quicker is really from the way a turbo engine performs.
All I know is it’s a helluva lot quicker than the FJ Cruiser I traded it in for, and much quicker than the 2017 JK I test-drove - which, incidentally, had no brakes I had to inform the salesman about, who was riding with me.

I had the exact same thought: either bog or burn-out. 5 MPH is a lot slower than I thought it was... It's barely above idle, but in the wrong gear.

Anyone know if the 3.6 is in 2nd gear at 5 MPH? Also, a Sport/Sahara would obviously be different too.

Well, I’d be very interested to see a skilled driver test the 3.6L manual transmission from 0 mph vs. 5 mph, seeing as he could select first gear.

It’s all academic to me; my Rubicon (3.6L manual two-door) feels like a rocket. I’m coming from a ‘94 YJ with 35’s, 3.07 gears, and a broken first gear meaning I had to launch from second gear. Think about that for a minute...

Dumping the clutch at 5 MPH? Yeah, that would do the trick.

I messed around with my 2.0 more, holding it in 1st at 5 MPH is much better than letting the transmission shift to second (when doing a 5 MPH rolling launch). 10 MPH is better still, and neither launch speeds had any wheel-spin (the 2-door Rubicon has weight transfer like a pirate ship at a carnival).

After test driving both I and leaning more towards the 2.0 I actually went and talked to the mechanics at the Jeep dealership and asked their honest opinions regarding the liability of the 2.0. All 4 of the guys working said that the 2.0 was "bulletproof" and that they are very reliable engines (so far). Only 1 of them said that he would buy a 3.6 over the 2.0 and it came down to towing capabilities (which I don't intend to do).

I ended up buying a 2019 JLU Rubicon and I am absolutely in love with it.

This has probably already been answered but are there major differences between the 2 engines, besides cost?
For what it is worth I am speaking of the 2020. 2.0 w/OUT the E-torque (Sport and Willys,..NOT the Sahara model).

Also, does the 2.0 with NO E-torque still require premium gas, or is that only needed/recommended in the Sahara version with the E torque?

I prefer simplicity in my live and I believe less is often better than more. I picked the 3.6 for it is a well tested engine and driving it now for few months I have never felt any lack of power . That motor has lots of energy and I feel I could pull a tractor trailer with those muscles . The one thing that I am not too crazy about is the first gear which I find is bit too short for regular driving but I do understand that it has its benefits in extremely rough climbs .

Unfortunately the revised 2020 non eTorque 4 has not been tested yet. But here are some conclusions drawn with the eTorque - then turbo - on power band output. Without eTorque you can expect less pop off the line “eTorque shuts off at 1500”.

Time will tell, the 2.0L Turbo is direct injection, those engines are a maintenance nightmare.

I am so tired of hearing people generalize that direct injection engines are an issue!!!

What makes you say that they are not an issue? Older versions had crud all up in the intake and valves because of egr in intake and no fuel washing down to clean it.
