@JeepX3; I’ll have to find that podcast...thanks for recommendation!

@wvgasguy; I prefer to rotate tires at 5000 miles too...it is very convenient to just do both at once, but I guess 5000 and whatever it ends up being when the computer says it’s time will be sufficient.

@viper88; that’s a lot of life left...I guess your driving wouldn’t be considered sever then! Lol!

@old8tora; yeah...the warranty will definitely require more than once every 20,000 miles!

I know a guy doing 30k on Rotella T6 but he is using a double filtration system on his diesel. Oil analysis has been fine. I run 7.5k on my 17 Powerstroke with T6. Ford house said I can run 10k on it. I think the oil technology has come a long way. It’s the filtering the particles that worry me on long intervals. Running Wix XP on all my stuff now.

@Highonlyfe, @WXman, @TimmH, @Trini; there is no doubt in my mind that shorter intervals reduce wear...I wish they would have used more than one vehicle for their 500,000 miles @ 20,000 mile oil changes test, but even the one is impressive considering the only thing to break was the transmission. Also, WXman, I have no real experience with turbos, but I do know they do require additional maintenance and care. I found it interesting (and smart) that they have developed tests specifically to test the oil’s effect on turbos.

@DanW; 8 quarts is a lot of dang oil...my first truck took 7 quarts and I thought that was a lot. Lol!

@zamboniman; good point about shorter intervals...and yeah, I would definitely want to keep an eye on it.
I had a 911 that took 10-11 quarts of oil, that was air cooled though. A Bugatti Veyron takes a whopping 42 quarts of engine oil! lol.

It was probably 70% city and 30% highway if my memory is correct? The Blackstone Labs engineers said most people cold easily extend oil change intervals because quality oil holds up. I remember one of the engineers joking about 3K oil change intervals. He said 3K intervals were designed so service departments sell more oil and filters. The oils companies definitely did better when everyone was changing oil at 3K. lol.

Honestly, the engines are probably the most reliable component of a car today. It's not uncommon to see 200K plus miles on modern engines. It's everything else, all the peripherals that are more problematic now that cars are so complex. Ruptured hoses, cooling failure, over heating, probably kills engines more then worn oil and bearings today.

Boy...I bet that was an expensive oil change. Lol! Speaking of expensive oil changes...I’ve heard the Bugatti is over $1000 for an oil change and the have to disassemble most of the rear of the car...

I started to joke that it was a cash grab by the oil companies! Lol! And I agree with your assessment of engine reliability...I had 267,000 miles on the truck I traded in for my JLU.

I have only seen a Veyron once in person. It's rolling art. It's impressive you had 267K miles on a truck. It's even more impressive you got a dealer to take it in trade! lol. :like:

My Powerstroke holds 13 quarts of oil. About $80 in oil, $40 for oil filter and $50 for air filter. $175 for an oil change

Was it a diesel? My buddy has 350k on his 7.3 and another has 460k on a 5.9

Yea, some article on the most expensive oil change on a vehicle
it's not only the oil. The owner of the Veyron I saw told me tires were $40K every 2000-3000 miles. It's insane. lol.
