The mods are too personal to add any value (historically, they may even hurt the value). Get 3 appraisals and average them out... or get 10 appraisals and pick the lowest 3 to average while hiding the other 7 :)
Lol, na, that would land me in hot water if discovered.

The times they are a changin' at the ol' Moosie house.

Getting a divorce, and I am trying to understand the value of upgrades.

I content that if I sold the Jeep today, the value would be zero. My soon to be ex believes the value is what I paid for the parts.

Answer is probably somewhere in the middle. What do y'all think?
Do yourself a big favor and do not discuss your divorce on a public forum, hire an attorney and let them do their job.

I'm on my third marriage.

That did cross my mind. But, ultimately, this one is mine,,and personalized, and I DO love it, which plays against me, most likely.
Yeah, that love for the Jeep... is a real thing.

There's 10 steps to owning a Jeep.
  1. Buy Jeep
  2. Meet girl
  3. Jeep broke, Buy second vehicle,
  4. Marry girl
  5. Spend 5x more on mods than you tell girl
  6. Wheel jeep, Jeep broke.
  7. Upgrades are "necessary", no time to spend with girl. Gotta wheel
  8. Divorce girl
  9. Sell Jeep
  10. Drive second car and cry at stoplights while looking at the Jeep next to you
(Repeat, as necessary)

trade in they will be worth almost zero. If you still have the stock parts you could take off the mods and sell them that way. Then you will be able to recoup some of the cost

Just echoing what's been said above that mods don't add much, if anything, to the value when getting quotes from KBB, CarMax, etc. In a private sale, the right buyer who loves everything you've done may give you stupid money for it. But for the most part you can't really expect much more than what the dealer would have offered.

Went thru a split from my wife of 20+ years last year so I can definitely sympathize with what you're dealing with right now.

I agree, but to his benefit most are saying that the money he spent modifying his Jeep adds no value to it, and could possibly make it worth less than an unmodified one.

On a side note. Never let your significant other know how much you love your vehicle. Always point out the little flaws in their presence. Before buying parts, complain that a shortcoming or defect in the vehicle is forcing you to “fix” it. If they think your Jeep is a pain in your ass, they wont want to use it as leverage.

When I was in the Army, I saw many a young man’s car scratched up, tires slashed, brake fluid poured on it, etc. it was always an ex. I would always tell them that next time they get a girlfriend to always find something to complain about on their car and to never let them see him washing or waxing it.

First, I'm sorry to read about Haus Moose having a change of circumstances. Hopefully you both get through it as best you can.

As for accessories, and based on my own experience:
Leaving them installed might return .10 on the dollar, if that, when selling the vehicle in question. Your preferences aren't always the buyer's preferences, and vice versa. That's it, really. So, your position that they've zero valuation if left in situ on the Jeep is pretty close to the reality that I've observed through the years.

What I've done, prior to selling or trading a vehicle, is remove as many add-on parts & accessories that I'm willing to do. They're cleaned and photographed, and then listed online, usually in the related enthusiast forums. My return when doing it that way has averaged .50 on the dollar, sometimes a little more.

There's a reason divorces are so expensive.
It's because they are worth it.

Best of luck to you... been there, done that.

Is there something you both own that has the same sentimental value to her? Something that has more sentimental value than monetary value? You get the personalized Jeep and she gets ____.

You're going to be single. Get a 2 door and remove the back seat. That way you eliminate single moms with a couple kids from another man.

Good advice. Thanks. Trying to avoid those discussions, just asking about jeep parts values.

Ain't that the truth.

A former neighbor of mine and his [attractive, intelligent] wife split up, seemingly out of the blue. I'd guess both were in their late 20s, but they didn't have any children.

Not long after they split, he started dating a floozy with one of the brattiest kids I've ever had the displeasure of observing. Coincidentally, my neighbor was heavy into the Jeep scene, and was an officer in the local club. A little while later, he moved out so they could shack up somewhere south of the Philadelphia region.

Been there, done that. It’s a very unhappy situation trying to maintain peace and rules in your house when another man is using the kids to undermine all of that. You can not win when their own father encourages the discourse and when the mother defends the kids actions. Sides will be taken and guess who always loses?
