Is it confirmed that there is a difference in the springs that come from the factory if you order the steel bumper group on the XR? And if so, is it confirmed that there is a difference in the spacing on the bump stop with such springs? I would go out to the garage and measure, but I'm waiting on Jeep to build my XR with the steel bumper group ...
I ordered the steel bumpers, and there is only about 1/2-inch between my bump stop and the pad. No accessories added.

Didn't you buy it for more than the tire height and small lift? Think about the positives; otherwise, yeah, it would have been better to buy a better tire and lift.
The only thing I REALLY wanted was the tire height and lift, but then the 4.56 gearing and hingegate reinforcement and bigger brakes that come with it. But those things are only, in my opinion, to support what mattered: the tires and lift. I would not have done tires and lift without doing those things.

A few hours, a cutting implement, and some sweet Fox or King bumps and you'll be set. You can cut the jounce tube down and install the bumps. Will take some tuning to get the length right (they're adjustable), but they're a solid option. Or a lift. Or both.
Well, but the point was, I didn't want to do after-market lift stuff. I liked the idea of having the lift come from the factory, under factory warranty, etc., all cohesively built etc. I didn't want to start piece-mealing stuff together after-market. If I now have to do that stuff anyway... then the XR package is a little pointless...

The good news is that modifying the bump stops really won't impact anything factory other than the jounce tube. You'd still have the factory lift, tires, gears, brakes, and ride quality - just with more uptravel. Not sure who at Jeep decided XRs needed jounce tubes the length of Texas, but, well, here we are.

Has anyone confirmed the length of the XR bump stop tubes vs. non-XR? Are they really different from a 392 or 3.0?

I've heard they're around 1" longer than typical JLs, but haven't actually been able to measure any.

I wonder just how much stiffer the springs for the for the steel bumper group are. I had the plastic bumper. My plan is to add a set of the stiffest springs at the same time I add the one inch spacer. I feel like with the kind of wheeling I do I will be golden. If I find out otherwise it will be time for a plan B. I also bought the XR because I didn't want to do anything suspension wise aftermarket.

Is your thinking there that, if the springs are stiff enough, you can still get adequate travel even if the bump stop gap is small?

No. My thinking is the stiffness will help compensate for the added weight just like they were meant to do for the steel bumper. I think if you had less bump stop the way they are set up you would stuff your tire into the fender. They are doing what they were designed to do. Someone mentioned the tubes were one inch longer than non XR. That makes sense with the XR tires being more than one inch taller.

I have the 1" spacer and that works for now. At some point when I upgrade the suspension I'll also upgrade to hydraulic bump stops. I'll probably move up to 37's at the same time which will introduce it's own set of issues ?

Nice! Think you will hit Moab again? Would love see you impression compared to the non XR rubicon
I will undoubtedly go to Moab again, as in, at least 3x per year. Next scheduled trip is Thanksgiving, but now that I just got the XR, I am sure I am going to end up going sooner. But after I install my roof rack and skid plates, we'll see if that bump stop gap is even smaller. If so, I may have to do something in terms of shocks or cutting down the tubes or whatever first.

We are going to be there 8/29 - 9/2. I plan to spend 1 day in Arches and 1 day in Canyonlands playing tourist. I am looking to hit Elephant Hill road if I can get one of the daily passes....if you need an excuse to visit before thanksgiving

2 wheels, 4 wheel drives....
I mentioned this in another response but a spacer totally fixed this issue for me. $45 and takes an hour to install - not a big investment of money or time.
can you send link which spacer you utilized if you don't mind...
