The amount of price increases will be interesting to see as this all plays outs.

The flip-floppy nature of what is happening makes it hard to plan for the immediate future both as a company and consumer.

I, for one, am out of doing any major purchasing for the next 6-10 months unless absolutely necessary. Means probably no new Jeep, but not a bad thing since I'm still more than happy with my current one 😁

I've already readjusted my business plans for the year accordingly. Just waiting for the proverbial "other shoe to drop"...question is whether it's the "good" news or "bad" that awaits 🙃

Stuff like the 392 makes over 50k in pure profit for each model sold.

I think the tariffs are beyond dumb and enforced by someone without a lick of financial understanding of greater market forces
I had guessed that the V8 Wranglers were returning $40K to the corporate coffers. $50K is a bit surprising...but only a bit.

As for the subject of tariffs, think of them as political chess, not checkers. Any cogent analysis requires us to take the long view.

Stop the tariffs. Move the fentanyl production to the US. Tax the crap out of it. Upstanding fentanyl users have to get a second good paying job, helping with the unemployment rate. Jeep part prices come down. I get 37s. Problem solved.

Same but 2019 for me, first and last. When this one conks out or I get tired of it, I won't get another. Not that I had a bad experience, quite the opposite, it's been a pleasurable 6 years. I just couldn't bring myself to pay what they are asking.
I agree with the ridiculous pricing but all the other options are just as ridiculous.

All I see are higher prices for the consumer, and low-to-mediocre paying jobs.
One of the problems in the West is there aren't much jobs between barista and bankers, all those jobs have been shipped overseas, and cost of living is geared at banker salaries, then the economists say we are fine, we have highly educated workforce, we don't need low-to-mediocre paying jobs.

Right….. sounds good on paper but in reality it will take 4-5 years of hardship for the US before this pays off, if ever. In the meantime Canada has been alienated and learns to no longer trust or depend on the US like we use to be.

And this right here is what a lot of people dont want to acknowledge. Prices went up and when costs for companies making the goods went back down prices stayed high. No company out there is going to settle for anything less than "record profits" and taking it out on the consumer is always going to be what happens. And god forbid you try to do anything to keep corporations from being held responsible in any way shape or form its unamerican apparently.
If you made a widget and sold it for $50 and then someone bought it for $100 would YOU keep selling it for $50 knowing people would pay $100 for it? Just out of the goodness of your heart?

I doubt it...

Products are sold for what the market will bear. Cheap money means people will borrow more instead of curbing their spending.

I blame the bankers.

I still think a lot of our problems started around 1913 or so but that's just me. I'd love to put that genie back in the bottle but I don't think modern Americans have the fortitude to see it through.

Nobody wants to give up a little comfort today for a better tomorrow.

I was confused when I didn't see 37's on the tariff-exempt list, TBH.

Now, if people in the US would just stop using fentanyl, the problem wouldn't exist. Fentanyl doesn't kill people, people kill themselves, so banning fentanyl and implementing these ridiculous tariffs is just more or the government nanny-state exerting control over lives. 🤡

It's not a coincidence that so many automakers have set up shop in the American South. They can pay low wages where there is generally low education and also a low cost of living, generally low opportunity, and a high resistance to unionization because the workers think they don't benefit from collective bargaining.

But sure, we need more assembly workers gluing fabric on door panels. Sounds like a good use of human capital in one of the former greatest nations in the world.

Exactly. And that's why I can't fathom how/why people think tariffs are in any way a "good" idea.

These tariffs will, however, send a lot of money to what's left of the US federal government. 🧐
Learn your history. This country used to have tariffs only, NO income taxes, and we were a much wealthier country.

However, the tariffs being applied today are reciprocal to restore a trade balance between countries, and are not meant to be permanent. Example, try buying a Jeep in Europe. The tariff taxes will kill you, so they only buy Euro cars. If the EU removes the tariffs on American cars, the US will remove the new tariff on Euro cars, and a new market is open to american companies.

All I see are higher prices for the consumer, and low-to-mediocre paying jobs.
Some of the jobs will be low to mediocre, but there are a lot of unemployed unskilled workers here in America that are on some kind of government assistance. This can get them back in the workforce with advancement opportunities, which in turn increases the tax base and lowers government expenditures.

Lots of other jobs will be highly skilled, high paying jobs that currently don’t exist here because they all went overseas years ago. Tax base gets increased further.

Prices may be higher in the short term, but if you can eliminate income taxes, everyone’s buying power goes up.

This should be a wake up call, America doesn't want to end up like Canada where 1 in 4 employed work for the government, and a house cost 1 million dollars.

Genpop was a lot wealthier when the top marginal tax rate was 91%. Why don't you learn YOUR history?

There are a lot of employed full time workers in the US on government assistance, so you're really not making your case for low-paying jobs. Definitely not for the South where the poverty rate is the highest in the nation.

IMO, cut the "this is necessary pain" BS. If anyone wants to afford a million dollar house, better get their asses in school studying something that makes money, or come up with a highly employable skill that commands money, and go get it. People on assistance aren't holding anyone back, immigrants aren't, and tariffs aren't gonna make anyone great now or again. Periodt.
