48% Price Increase Since 2018

The federal government gives Jeep/Chrysler Capital (to the consumer it’s the same goddamn thing) a $7500 credit.

Jeep/CC can decide whether to keep that, or pass it to the consumer. They pass it along to the consumer.

You’re playing semantic word games that mean nothing; point is, lease a 4xe and get $7500 off that you don’t get on a gasser.
Wrong, Jeep is not part of Chrysler Capital and CC is owned by Santander. They do business for Stellantis.

I haven’t run the numbers lately, but when I got my 2021 Rubicon 4xe, the 4xe was much cheaper when comparing apples to apples than a full gas Rubicon, after the tax credit, and it’s the most powerful one aside from the much more $$$ 392. If you don’t want it, fine, but it’s a pretty good deal.
It's still the case now. Yes the 4xe version is more expensive than the gas version for the same general options/equipment; but since a lease is only paying for a portion of the price of the car, but you get the full $7500 tax incentive, it outweighs the price increase.

To be super simple/general about it:

- Say a Rubicon 4xe is $60k but a Rubicon gas is $50k, so there's a $10k markup
- But when you lease, you're paying for only ~35% of the cost of the vehicle (~65% residual value is common for Wranglers)
- So you're paying for 35% of that $10k increase, or $3500 "more"
- But you save 100% of the $7500 from the tax credit
- So you're netting out +$4000

Stellantis took first place in price increases. See this video.
Appears to be true.

That said, let's look at the LONG road. My 2003 TJ R with MAX options except the Auto Trans was around $23k

For most of you I doubt you have any idea what a TJ is and even less of an Idea what one Optioned to the hilt would be. Not many options, Delta tween a Sport and a Max Rubi few, all had cloth seats, no electric this or that. Compared to a 2024 JL R its not just a gap, but a GULF and a plethora of options

My 2024 JL -R-X Tale of the Tape: $65,557, 21 year gap, price has increased 3 x. I I compare this to my 2001 Corvette Z06 at about $45,000, MAX options to a 2024 Z06 I am looking at 3x price (about $120k)

I would say these cars are unique and to everyone drives and even wants a Rubicon or a Z06, so a 3x price increase is a lot but you get a LOT for your money.

Having said that, what has happened is that your Paycheck has not keep pace with cars, housing and all the rest big ticket stuff and even small ticket items. I don't buy bread but bet it costs a lot more today than yesterday.

Good for them. Every business should endeavor to maximize their profits. I can't imagine anyone thinking that they shouldn't......?
Maximizing profits is only ONE of many goals business have. Another important goal every business has is to stay in business. Some times these two goals are at odds with each other. Adhering to one does not guarantee the other.

Detroit automakers have ended in bankruptcy before by focusing singlemindedly on maximizing profits, with little regard for staying in business.

And? You were wrong. Get over it move along. You corrected yourself after I showed you the light. Good.
I wasn’t wrong in anything that actually mattered. Lease a 4xe, get $7500 off. If you want to go brag to your cat that you showed some dude on the internet that Chrysler capital isn’t the same legal entity that owns Jeep, good for you man, I hope it brings some much needed fulfillment to your life.

Of course. I'm assuming that a business is running itself in a proper functional manner. I just never got the mental attitude of a lot of people that a business should not be as profitable as possible. I owned a number of businesses from my mid 20s to my mid 60s and ran into that attitude often.

Understood.

The reason I raise this point is because people seem to mindlessly repeat the mantra that "business are supposed to maximize profits."

Life is much more complicated than that.

If "maximizing profits" results in losing a whole bunch of customers, then the best course of action might not necessarily be to blindly "maximize profits."

Jeep has pissed off a lot of people with its nonstop greed. And sales figures are now reflecting it.

Exactly. It a Tax Rebate so if we get to the base of it is Government paying 7500 dollars.
I hate to break this news to you...The GOVT has NO MONEY, ohh sure that get a few bucks from Museums and National Parks and stuff like that but it not even a drop in the bucket.

The ONLY $ govt has is that which it gets from We the People....no more, no less!

Of course. I make the mistake of assuming that everyone will take fair overhead and profit, while at the same time taking extremely good care of their customer base. It only makes sense right? To do otherwise will result in failure.

I am on my 5th Wrangler and have been very impressed with both their quality and customer service. But maybe I just got lucky....?
