MODERATORS: I don't know how to have this conversation without it being somewhat political, I'm going to try and keep it as non-political as I can, but if you guys feel the need to, by all means do what you got to do!

With these 20% tariffs on things coming in from China, I don't see how the Jeep Wrangler and other Jeep brand products, along with the whole automotive industry here in the United States, isn't going to have major price increases.

Every Mopar brand part I've ever ordered always comes with a little tag on it that says made in China. I know a few companies now who are having their parts made in the United States. I was watching a video this morning from Dirt Road Cred about their new footwell lighting which is made exclusively in the USA, and the price shows it... $200 for four foot well lights.

I've done the math myself, the things that I order from AliExpress and Alibaba, even with a 20% tax is still significantly less expensive than anything similar made in the United States.

So what do y'all think, Are we going to get a major increase in the cost of Wranglers because of these tariffs? You think they will be major or minor? Or maybe they'll start manufacturing parts here in the good ole US of A, $70,000 Wranglers will become $200,000 Wranglers overnight? :surprised:

Nope. As was happening 8 years ago, this will encourage companies to bring manufacturing back to USA. The new Honda Civic will be built here. We will likely have better deals with Mexico and Canada. No one wanted Chinese steering boxes anyway. Competition will improve. And inflation may become a thing of the past once all the fraud and waste is cut in D.C. I'm cautiously optimistic.

There is no way FCA is going to increase prices in the US. They are already struggling in the market with lots of left over 2024's, EV's they can't sell and no-one wants, and they are already over priced and offering incentives on everything. If anything, they might even drop prices to move inventory. Sadly, the last CEO ran the company into the ground, and they have a lot of catching up to do.

“You reap what you sow.” If you didn’t see this coming, you haven't been paying attention or you get your information from people in their basement on YouTube.

Either way, glad I finished most of what I wanted to do with my Jeep already. I can’t wait to see when everyone starts asking “how do I get better gas mileage?” After our energy prices skyrocket.

Good time to buy solar. I am looking to DIY a 4kw setup that will cut our bill in half, with battery backup. Room to expand for another 4kw in the future.
The worst that will happen is new cars become unaffordable and then all of our used ones go up in value. This is a win win. CEOs don't need multi million dollar parachutes, make better cars and compete.

Great question. I think Jeep has maxed out the possible price anyone can or will pay for a Wrangler/Gladiator. When I first started looking at a Wrangler purchase, a Rubicon was about $50K and that was with less options than I have on my 2017 Rubicon Recon. That price has JUMPED to a level where a new vehicle purchase was out of the question. I am very fortunate that a friend of mine was ready to part with the Recon. There is no way I would be able to afford anything new now. I hope that Jeep sees the error they have made and decide that Wranglers are not meant to be a luxury vehicle with a luxury price tag. If someone wants all of that luxury stuff, there are plenty of options out there that want your money.

My last Ram pickup truck purchase was a rather sparsely optioned 2024 Tradesman model 3500 dually. It cost $71K last year. With 25% tariffs on imports from Mexico that puts the price at $88,750. That is an awful lot of money for a base model pickup truck with vinyl seats and floors, even if it has the "functional" options like the high output diesel, better transmission, 4.10 gears, and the 5th wheel and camper prep groups on it.

I don't really care though. I'm not going to be in the market for a new automobile for at least a decade. I hear on the news that the tariffs are to decrease fentanyl traffic coming across the border. I don't know if I believe that or if I agree with that as a reason for tariffs. If someone is stupid enough to take street drugs then they should accept the risk on their own. Darwin is at work with this one if you ask me. If the tariffs are to equalize trade then I'm fine with that. Reciprocal tariffs where both sides pay the same is ok with me.

Later in the year when a lot of people cannot make payments the used market will be flooded. So prices will go down if you are looking to buy used.
