I feel the words Jeep Wrangler and Aerodynamics shouldn't really be too close to each other in any sentence unless it says: a jeep wrangler has no aerodynamics. It's a brick on wheels. :CWL:

The coefficient of drag isn't really that bad considering you still want the vehicle to look like a Jeep

Cd = 0.454[28] Jeep Wrangler (JL) 2018
0.55 TJ Wrangler
0.50 JK Wrangler
0.45 Dodge Viper RT/10 1996
0.44 Ford Mustang (fastback) 1979
0.30 Average Production car (today)

Here's a couple salty photos from a recent New England ski trip that illustrates the front end aero. This thing needs a bath.
The airflow is actually quite smooth off the hood leading edge. We have been thinking of adding a deflector to protect from stone chips and dirt but are concerned even low profile ones will disrupt the airflow too much causing drumming etc. Some others have complained about that problem.

On a previous 4x4 we installed a standard deflector and it def caused abnormal wind buffeting. So we may just add a strip of Xpel if chips become a problem. Thanks for the pics anyways as it clearly illustrates the airflow to everyone.

I was trying to find a number for the aerodynamics of a cow, but couldn't find it. However, I found this and it appears cow aerodynamics rival those of an F1 car, hence, a Jeep is nearly as aerodynamic as an F1 car. Science, crazy stuff!

i think the point of race car aerodynamics is to keep the wheels gripping at fast speeds?

the cow is hilarious.

The thing that stOod out to me was the effect on the airstream by the hood latches. Look at how the laminar airflow bends away towards the outer edge of the fender. It would interesting to see if there were any deposits that showed the eddy and vortex from the latch. A CD of .45 is pretty remarkable for that shape.

Try getting rid of them latches and watch your aerodynamics —and your hood— fly out the window! :LOL:

The term "Wrangler aerodynamics" is an oxymoron if I've ever heard one.

Not to mention a modern Formula One car that is close to 1.00 - twice the air resistance as a JK.
