Winch Install issue

I completed my Zeon 10S install today with the Warn winch plate. Im running into a clearance issue with the factory steel bumper as the bottom of the opening is higher than the lowest part of my Warn hawse fair lead. The metal from the bumper opening will absolutely abrade the synthetic line. I was able to get the fair lead in the right position, but the torque from the winch reeling at the end pops it down.

I was planning to take my angle grinder to the bumper opening to enlarge it, but figured I’d ask here first.

What bolts are you using to attach the fairlead? It almost sounds like they are too small to self center on the hole?

I am thinking you're right. I got the winch and fairlead used and used some 3/8" hex button head grade 8 bolts I had. They fit well enough in the fairlead, but the holes in the bumper are larger. I'll try 7/16" bolts

It’s not a great photo, but I increased the contrast so you can make out the lip of black metal sticking up past the hawse fairlead about 1/8” of an inch.
I think larger bolts may force the fairlead up enough.

See the acorn nuts used. There is about 1/8” of vertical clearance from top lip of fairlead to winchplate as I feel with my finger.

Interesting. The bolt comes through from the inside and the nut is on the outside? I have it mounted the opposite way with a hex head button bolt facing inward from the outside.
